Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 485

Fanny rubbed the tip of her nose, feeling inexplicably awkward.

Well, that was certainly a unique perspective from Hayley.

“Did you keep the original security footage?” Fanny cleared her throat, breaking the uncomfortable silence.

Hayley fished a flash drive out of her pocket and nodded, patting her chest confidently. “Of course I did.”

“Even though the camera didn’t catch me going into the records room, this gives me a solid alibi. It explains everything that happened a year ago.”

Ruby pressed her fingers to her brow, lost in thought, but the more she considered it, the less sense it made.

If the footage never caught her, why was Gennifer so sure it was her? And why did Cassian believe it so easily?

She voiced her doubts, and Fanny’s face grew serious.

Other than Ruby, Fanny understood the law best among them.

Quinborough’s laws were strict—arresting and detaining someone without evidence should never have happened.

“Gennifer’s never been a decent person. Who knows what tricks she pulled back then,” Hayley scoffed.

The conversation paused, heavy with unspoken thoughts.

“Ruby, right now the priority is getting something concrete on Hanley. What happened a year ago isn’t as urgent,” Fanny reminded her.

Ruby’s fingers curled unconsciously into her palm. She nodded, taking the advice to heart.

Really, she was the only one still haunted by the past.

Forcing herself to let go, Ruby started to analyze, step by step. “We’ve found Asher. Once he’s ready, he can come forward and testify. Plus, Bennett sent me a copy of the DNA report showing Hanley is Gennifer’s father. All of this is solid evidence.”

Seeing that their case was growing stronger, both Fanny and Hayley couldn’t help but share a look of satisfaction.

Hanley’s reckoning was long overdue.

“But what about Violet?” Fanny looked up. “Are we just going to let her go?”

After all, the evidence only proved Gennifer was Hanley’s illegitimate child. It didn’t overturn the conclusion that Violet was dead, or prove Gennifer was Violet and Hanley’s daughter. At best, Asher’s testimony would show Hanley’s cruelty and implicate him in that car crash years ago.

“Exactly. If Hanley just keeps denying it, then at worst he’s guilty of an affair. Sure, people will talk, but it won’t actually ruin him,” Hayley grumbled, scowling as she rubbed her chin.

She’d always been the type to repay a slight tenfold.
