Burn Me Once Burn With Me (Ruby Grayson) novel Chapter 510

Morgan yanked at his tie, not even bothering to acknowledge Gennifer’s presence. Without a word, he strode over and slammed his hand around her throat, then drove his fist into her face.

The blow sent Gennifer sprawling from the carpet to the edge of the sofa, the world tilting violently around her.

“Gennifer, when you used me like a pawn in your little game, you should have known this day would come.” Morgan stepped closer, fingers tightening around her neck as he shoved her down against the cushions, her hair spilling over the side until it brushed the floor.

The sickening weightlessness mixed with the agony of almost suffocating made her feel like she was drowning at sea—one breath away from being dragged under for good.

Clinging helplessly to Morgan’s wrist, Gennifer’s eyes filled with terror and desperate pleading. “I— I’m sorry… Please…”

“Sorry won’t cut it.”

Morgan sneered, and, not satisfied, drove his foot into her leg.

Gennifer collapsed onto the floor, pain shooting through her limbs as if her bones had shattered. She lay there, her strength gone, despair flooding her with every labored breath.

She glanced at the firmly shut office door. There was no escape. All she could do now was endure Morgan’s wrath.

Her plan had been flawless. The moment the press burst in with their cameras and caught Ruby and Morgan in a compromising position, the scandal would destroy them both. The backlash would be so swift, neither of them would even have time to wonder who tipped off the media.

She never imagined Ruby would have a contingency plan.

Bitterness ate at her as she ground her teeth, but before she could gather herself, another punch landed squarely in her back, forcing tears from her eyes.

Morgan stood over her, his face carved from ice, watching her gasp and writhe on the floor, barely clinging to consciousness.

“Morgan! You’re one to talk about dirty tricks—did you ever worry about being exposed when you did those things to Ruby?”

Maybe she realized she wasn’t getting out of this alive—her voice was edged with hatred, her gaze defiant.

She tried to raise her head, but pain forced her to stay crouched on the ground—humiliated, like some animal left to be kicked around.

The shame was unbearable.

Gennifer bit back another sob, her resentment toward Ruby and the sting of her own failure blazing in her chest.

“Not your place to scheme. You’re nothing but a bastard child who can’t even hold her head up in public.”

Morgan’s voice was so cold it seemed to suck the warmth from the room.

The fire inside Gennifer was snuffed out in an instant. Ice seeped into her veins, and she shivered uncontrollably.

“Si—” she tried to speak, but a scream ripped from her throat, echoing off the office ceiling.

Apartment.

“Why isn’t Gennifer back yet?”

Hanley frowned, absentmindedly rubbing Violet’s stomach.

Violet nibbled on some dried fruit, entirely unconcerned. “Why are you in such a hurry? Didn’t the news already break? Ruby agreed to go to Grayson Manor tomorrow.”

He supposed she was right—Gennifer had done what she was asked.

Still…
