The man lowered his head, his unkempt hair falling over his face.
Victor waited patiently for his decision, saying nothing, yet his silence carried an imposing weight.
"Miss Grayson, I testified for Hanley back then. Will you really spare me and my family?"
He could no longer hold back, looking up with his palms clenched.
On the screen, Ruby's expression was placid and calm.
"No."
She narrowed her eyes.
Her cool, firm voice echoed in the silent room.
Domingo's wife visibly sagged, her legs giving out as she leaned against the wall to stay upright.
Domingo, by contrast, remained much calmer, though his fingertips dug into his palms, leaving deep marks on his calloused skin.
It made sense.
As the one who had testified, he knew just how big the scandal had been. He had also heard through the grapevine about the relentless online harassment Ruby had endured.
He was not innocent.
"However, your family had nothing to do with what you did. I won't go out of my way to harm them," Ruby stated calmly.
Some of the light returned to Domingo's vacant eyes.
Standing next to Ruby, Asher froze, staring at her with shock and disbelief.
What was Ruby saying?
