Chapter 204
Rania went to the dungeon and all the warriors there were surprised to see her. Lucian and Ares then explained why the queen came.
“But, we need a permission from the king… I don’t know if this is a good idea to let you in, my queen,” the guard said, he stole a glance at Lucian and Ares.
They had heard about what happened to them. They managed to escape the king’s wrath because the queen pleaded for them.
They were her personal warriors after all, but for the guards, they were mere guards. The bottom line rank of the warrior, therefore they didn’t think the queen would plea for their lives like she did for Lucian and Ares.
Rania understood that, and reassured them that it would be fine. They were free to report this to the king, as she entered the dungeon to meet with her father.
And after some discussion and Lucian reassurance, finally Rania could come inside and visit Alaric.
He was still in the same cell, looked haggard and filthy.
Not even once Rania would have imagined that one day she would see her father was in such state. He was always be meticulous and neat, but now he smelled so bad.
There was remaining food on his plate, he had lost his appetite, but probably, it was not only his appetite, but also his will to live.
Rania felt the tug in her heartstring.
When she didn’t see him, she didn’t think much about it, but now when Alaric was right in front of her, and his condition was in full display for her to see, she couldn’t help, but felt so bad for him.
He was still her father…
There was time when he loved her so much before Elena and her children came to the picture and they ruined everything for her and her father.
“Rania…” Alaric’s voice was hoarse. He tried to smile, but the smile was very stiff. He moved towards the cell, so he could see her closely. “I know it. I know you will come,” he says in a weak voice. “I know you will come to visit me here… I know it.”
Rania pressed her lips. She felt the urge to run away from here. Suddenly, this dungeon was very cramp.
Out of instinct, Rania took a step back when Alaric extended his hand to touch her. Seeing Rania’s reaction, Alaric tactfully retracted his hand, his eyes turned into a deep sadness.
Rania had prepared herself for her father’s answer, but she didn’t expect this kind of answer. What he meant with that?
“I know you love me. You loved me so much, so subconsciously, I thought whatever I did, you would have forgiven me. I didn’t help you when Elena treated you badly, because I don’t want to lose the family that I have built. I have told you that I am a coward. I don’t want her to leave me like you mother did.
I didn’t stand up for you for whatever horrendous things that Caden had done to you because of my position as the beta. I don’t want to have any conflict with the alpha, and his son. After all, Caden would be the alpha of the pack. I don’t want to shake the boat.
Deep down, I know how wrong I am, but I am too far gone to fix it, and when I thought I would have still a chance to beg for your forgiveness, I know that I have lost it now.
There were times when I wanted to try to make it right for you. When I hated myself for what I have done to you, but I don’t know how to fix it. I don’t know where I should try.
And it was easier to just continue with it.”
Alaric lifted his head. Tears streamed down his cheeks. A deep sorrow in his eyes, as he begged his daughter for her forgiveness.
“Please, forgive me, my child.”
