Chapter 211
It felt like forever when Rania finally heard the battle behind the door ceased down and someone knocked on the door. It was Ares’s voice.
“My queen, are you inside? Everything is alright now, you can come out.” Ares knocked again. “Should I break down the door? Are you alright?”
Rania knocked from inside, telling him that she heard him. She only needed a few seconds to gather herself and then stood up.
Her heart was beating so fast against her chest, as she opened the door and the strong smell of blood hit her.
“Everything is fine now, I will escort you back to your bedroom, so you can get some rest.” In another word, Ares was telling her that it was not condusive for Rania to stay in this room.
Rania looked around, she wanted to know where is Lucian, but Ares covered her eyes with his hand. “Close your eyes, my queen.”
‘Where is Lucian?‘ Rania mouthed the question. She couldn’t help, but ask him.
“He will be fine,” Lucian replied curtly, which made Rania’s heart skipped a beat. She didn’t anything bad happened to him. “Karin is looking after him.”
If Karin was involved, it meant his condition was bad.
Once they were outside of the room, Ares put down his hand, and escorted her to her bedroom. “Do you want me to stay inside, my queen?” Ares didn’t mean any disrespect, he only thought Rania was too shaken up to stay alone.
He would only stay until the king was here. He had tried to ask someone to reach for the king about the situation here. The king would be here in a short while.
Rania nodded. She didn’t think she wanted to be alone. She didn’t want to go to the bed area, instead she was sitting on the sofa, curling herself up, while Ares was sitting at the opposite of her. He didn’t say anything.
Five minutes later, Maximus entered the room, and Rania immediately rushed towards him, she hugged him and cried. The situation earlier was very scary.
“It’s okay, you are okay…” Maximus reassured his mate, while Ares nodded politely and then left the two of them alone. “You are fine.”
Later on they learned that it was another attempt from the Barlukan Warrior, who managed to sneak inside the kingdom and mingled with the local.
It was hard to detect them, because in the capital city the mobilization of the people was quite high. It was not
so strange to see a stranger.
The beast that managed to sneak inside Maximus’s bedroom and attacked Rania was able to escape in a knit of time by attacking Lucian to the point he was in a critical condition.
Right now, Rania insisted to visit him in the infirmary and helped Karin with Lucian’s treatment.
Maximus allowed her to do that, while he held another meeting with the elders and his senior warriors. They needed to make the final decision about the Barlukan kingdom.
“We are going to leave to tomorrow,” Maximus told Rania, after a long day and they finally could be together. “This matter can’t be delayed. You are going to leave too.”
Rania was snuggling against him on the sofa, she lifted her head from his chest, staring at him with disbelief, but Maximus flicked her nose.
“You are not going to the battlefield with me, you will go somewhere else. Your location will be a secret, since the palace will not be safe if the intruder could come into my bedroom without anyone noticing it.”
Maximus had heard the full report about what happened and how could Lucian and Ares not able to detect the enemy when they were so close.
Apparently, they couldn’t smell the intruder’s scent. And for this warrior to be able to fight against Lucian and Ares, even wounded one of them and managed to escape, this man must be an exceptional warrior.
Rania also confirmed it that she couldn’t smell the intruder’s scent.
“I will never allow you to go there.” Maximus watched the look of disappointment in his mate’s eyes, and he chuckled. “How do you want to go near the battlefield when you are trembling during the attack?”
‘I feel safe when I am close to you.’
Maximus sighed. He leaned over and kissed Rania’s on the lips. “You always have something sweet to say, haven’t you?”
The next day, Maximus led ten thousand warriors, where he would join with the earlier battalion to give the final blow against the Barlukan and conquer the kingdom.
Maximus should have done this from long time ago, but the elders disagreed with him, since a king shouldn’t be in the battlefield, or so what they said.
Meanwhile, Rania couldn’t sleep. She stayed until late and when the time Maximus should leave, she couldn’t walk him to the gates, because a handful warriors would take her somewhere else.
“I will come back as soon as possible,” Maximus said gently against her lips, as she held him tightly.
Rania hated this. She didn’t want to be separated from him. She wanted to stay with him, but Maximus was unfazed no matter what she said about her desire to come with him.
In a way, Maximus was right, it was only Rania’s impulsiveness. She wouldn’t help with anything if she insisted to come.
“Everything is ready, we need to leave.” Maximus could sense that Ares had been waiting outside of the door, he was ready to take Rania to a secret location once the king left.
However, when Maximus wanted to let her go, Rania grabbed his collar and tiptoed to kiss him.
“I will never be able to leave if you keep doing this, Rania,” Maximus groaned. He kissed her back, but then forced himself to stop, instead he kissed her forehead. “We really need to go now.”
Maximus then hugged her and then walked away from the room.
However, Rania felt something weird in her stomach…
