Crossing the Border (Rania) novel Chapter 216

Ares, Deryl and Cam didn’t say anything at first, but then the younger warrior complimented the food. He was telling the truth when he said that he would be a chatter person, whenever he was nervous.

“This meat is so delicious. How did you cook it? I want to try to cook something, but I always end up burning

the food.”

Ares kicked Cam’s leg under the table to make the young warrior to stop talking, and he got the clue, but a moment later, he talked again, since the silence was killing him.

“This sauce is very tasty, but it will be better if it is a little bit spicy.” Cam didn’t talk to anyone in particular, he simply murmured to himself.

“You can’t cook, but you are complaining about other people’s cooking?” Deryl narrowed his eyes at the young warrior, which made him lower his head and apologize.

“I am sorry.”

Seeing this interaction made Rania’s heart lighter, she laughed at their banter, and this caught their attention, as they looked at her almost at the same time.

[I like talking over meal. Please, feel free to have a conversation, because this silence is very awkward, I feel like I am going to have a stomachache because of the tension.]

Rania showed the things that she had written down and then showed it to the other warriors for them to read.

Ares and Deryl looked awkward, but Cam was happy because he was allowed to talk. He then asked Rania

like the food? What food do you like, my queen?”

Ares kicked Cam’s leg under the table again, warning him not to get too comfortable with the queen, after all, Rania was not someone that you could think as a friend. She was still the queen.

However, Rania put her hand over Ares’s, she gestured for him not too harsh on the young warrior.

After that, she answered his every question, literally chatted with him even though she would write it down on the notes, which made Ares concerned.

“You bother the queen’s meal. Don’t ask question again,” Ares said to Cam, who lowered his head, like a child, who got scolded, but Rania put her hand on Ares’s again.

[No. I like it this way. You are too harsh.] Rania then wrote something else. [What food do you two like?]

And with that, the four of them had a long conversation over dinner, by the end, it was the three of them who were chatting, talking about random thing, while Rania would chime in here and there.

They didn’t stand up even after the food had been polished, as they were too engrossed with their

conversation.

And without them realizing it, the sky had become so dark, it seemed there would be a storm tonight.

“Get some rest, my queen. I will call you when dinner is ready.” Cam escorted Rania back to her bedroom and wished her a good rest.

“Thank you,‘ Rania mouthed and Cam bent his body in respect.

This young warrior was so cute. He liked him because he was so innocent and the way he talked about Gamma Eiten… he adored the gamma so much, to the point when Ares and Deryl teased him, he became

upset.

‘I want to be as strong as gamma Eiten.‘

That was what Cam said. Ares and Deryl then teased him whether he had a crush on the gamma, which annoyed the young warrior.

‘I respect him, your comment is very disrespectful.‘

Somehow, Rania was entertained with their banter. She felt lighter after her depressing conversation with Karin in this morning.

Back in her bedroom, Rania opened the balcony that faced the forest. She could see the highest tower of the palace in the distance. She was so close, and yet so far.

It had not been a day, but she already missed Maximus, she wondered what he was doing right now.

If they moved according to the plan, Maximus would reach the border in three days, so currently, he must be on the way.

Rania thought quietly, as she stared at the dark sky. Rain started pouring down and she returned to her bedroom.

There were a lot of books here in her bedroom, so she picked up one to kill the time until diner was ready. With the earlier atmosphere, she was looking forward to dinner.

Rania tried to find a little bit of comfort in everything that she could find.

Was woken up when someone entered the room, she was alerted, and was ready to fight.

However, when she saw it was Killian, her shoulders relaxed again.

On the other hand, Killian could see the tension in Jasmine’s eyes, he knew what was going on and went to sit on the edge of the bed next to her.

This boat was small, and there were only three bedrooms in the lower deck, which were used by Royal Beta Gerald, Killian and Jasmine, and the last one was by alpha Winter.

The other warriors were sleeping in any spot that they could find, which they didn’t mind. They were still grieving upon the losing of their fellow warriors and the uncertainty of the future.

Therefore, there were nothing much that could bother them at this point.

“Sleep. We will dock in less than three hours,” Killian said, he caressed Jasmine’s cheek, which she leaned over against his touch. This was comforting.

Instead of sleeping again, Jasmine sat down, she hugged Killian and buried her face against his chest. She was very grateful that he came to save her from Gerald.

Both of them knew very well what was his intention.

Killian furrowed his brows, but in the end, he caressed her back. Jasmine didn’t have the brown hair that he liked, but there was something with her that stirred an emotion within him when he saw what Gerald intended to do to her.

“Do you think this is the right decision? Do you think this will be our way out or will we trap in another misery?” Jasmine lifted her head to look at Killian.

“What do you mean?”

“We are selling ourselves to the Barlukan Kingdom. Do you think, they will treat us well? Will we survive there? What would happen after the Barlukan takes down Aspen kingdom?”

Killian took a deep breath. “That’s still far in the future, we will think about that later. We will make sure those people, who had put us in this position will pay the price.”

However, Jasmine disagreed with him. She didn’t think this was completely the royal warrior fault, or even

imself.

But, things got complicated now.

“I wish we can go back in time, where thing is still very peaceful,” Jasmine said absentmindedly. “I wished we never involved in the coup. I wish everything is different.”

Killian stopped caressing her back. He looked at her deeply, but it was hard to tell what was in his mind at this moment. He seemed to be deep in his thought.

And after a long silence, he freed himself from Jasmine and stood up. “There is something I need to discuss with Gerald. Sleep, I will wake you up when we arrive.”

However, Jasmine still wanted to talk with him. “Are you sure… about this…” Jasmine lowered her head, staring

at her still flat stomach. Do you want me to give birth to another man’s child?”.

Killian gritted his teeth. “That child is our way to survive this. And yes. I want you to give birth to the child.

“Killian…” Jasmine called him before he left her inside the bedroom alone again. “Do you love me?” She had told him how she felt before, but she was not sure with him. “Do you love me?” She asked again, but this time, her voice held so much pain.

Jasmine had heard how possessive a mate was to their woman, but Killian was nothing like that. It was not like Jasmine not aware of how weak the mate bond between them, but she simply thought it was not as strong because they were not a destined mate.

“After all I have been through, you still ask me that?” Killian narrowed his eyes, which made Jasmine felt guilty for asking. “I have told you about it before, how many times do you want me to say it?”

And after saying that, Killian left the room.

He didn’t answer the question.
