Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2308

Athena remained silent, overhearing the Azmorian folks cursing her. It seemed they truly intended to harm her, but Marlon stood protectively by her side.

Marlon glanced down at the whistle hanging around her neck, said nothing, and continued on their way.

Athena closed her eyes, wishing that when she opened them, these people would be captured and taken away.

She thought she'd be more worried about their predicament, yet she was so exhausted that she drifted off to sleep. She felt so tired that even if someone were to harm her in her sleep, she doubted she'd notice.

In her dreams, Athena found herself revisiting childhood memories.

Back then, she lived with her grandmother in a remote village. One day, while collecting firewood in the hills, she noticed a boy not far away, surrounded by several tall men engaged in what seemed like a serious conversation.

She slipped and tumbled down the slope, her basket full of wild herbs spilling over, clutching a stick she’d picked up earlier.

She landed face-first in front of the boy, in a rather undignified manner.

The boy, a few years older than her, looked surprised, then amused as he glanced down.

Someone beside him warned, "Master, she could be a spy sent by others. We must eliminate her."

Athena had never heard such words before—it felt like a scene straight out of a TV drama.

However, the boy, addressed as 'Master,' took the stick from her hand and poked her face, then her shoulder.

The poking hurt, and Athena started to cry.

The boy turned to the others, "Does she look like a spy to you? She’s as harmless as a newborn piglet."

"Master, it's always better to be cautious," someone advised.

The boy chuckled, continuing to poke Athena with the stick.

She dared not speak, only letting out quiet sobs.

"Her eyes are beautiful. I’d like to keep them," the boy mused.

Suddenly, the distant sound of a helicopter filled the sky.
