Athena didn’t say a word, her forehead slick with the sweat of pain.
He tossed the stick aside, speaking with a casual air, “I bet you think I’m going to kill you now, don’t you?”
“Isn’t that the plan?”
If he killed her now, the bitterness he’d been carrying would finally ease. He could flee the country and start over. For him, it was the best option.
Marlon patted her cheek, “What am I gonna do? I just can’t seem to let it go. All those cops, acting like they’re holier-than-thou. You think keeping you as a hostage makes me safer?”
That’s when it clicked for Athena. He hadn’t finished her off because she was his bargaining chip.
But Marlon was a top-tier criminal, wanted everywhere. Even with a hostage, it wasn’t likely he’d get away.
He yanked her to her feet, “Stop playing games.”
She had no choice but to get up and keep moving.
Yet, her mind drifted back to his earlier question: had they met before?
She racked her brain but couldn’t recall. Still, Marlon’s irritating poke had been exactly like what a boy in her dreams used to do.
A police loudspeaker crackled to life nearby, urging Marlon to surrender.
Marlon flipped the sky a defiant middle finger, holding her tighter with a reckless grin.
Gunfire resumed, but luck was on his side; he managed to avoid every shot.
Maybe the police were holding back, worried about hitting Athena, hoping Marlon would give up on his own.

Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
