Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2312

As soon as the words left her mouth, Athena suddenly grabbed Marlon's gun.

For the cops, this was a golden opportunity.

The sniper rifle fired again, and Athena felt a sharp pain in her shoulder. Despite the injury, she held onto Marlon's gun with a vise-like grip.

When the gunfire rang out again, Marlon shielded her and rolled several times to avoid the shots.

Tyler, in a state of panic, seized the nearest person. "The hostage is still in there, and you're shooting? Stop it! Everyone, stop!"

The scene was utter chaos. If they paused now, who knew how Marlon might retaliate? He’d just taken a life with the flick of his wrist.

The gunfire ceased momentarily. Athena was bleeding from her shoulder, and Marlon, who had protected her, had taken hits to his leg and abdomen.

Both looked worse for wear, but Athena noticed Marlon was smiling.

Even in such a dire moment, he managed to crack a joke, "Athena, do you think we're just star-crossed lovers in this mess?"

Athena had expected him to be furious. If she hadn’t impulsively grabbed onto his gun, the cops wouldn’t have fired, and he wouldn’t be wounded.

Yet, when those bullets flew, he instinctively shielded her.

She couldn't fathom Marlon’s intentions.

Crouched on the ground, Marlon was hunched in front of her, both of them battered and bruised.

The police, held back by Ian, Tyler, and Fitch, hesitated to fire again.

Marlon's injuries weren’t fatal, but he raised his gun, pressing it against Athena's temple.

Her eyelashes fluttered, but she stayed silent.

His voice was eerily calm, "Do you know, what you just did is enough for me to kill you a hundred times over."

Seeing Marlon press the gun to Athena's head, everyone thought he was about to pull the trigger. Tyler nearly charged forward but was held back.

Marlon ignored the chaos behind him, focusing solely on Athena’s eyes.

She wasn’t afraid.

Marlon suddenly cupped her face and kissed her fiercely.

Athena, exhausted from being dragged along, didn’t have the strength to resist.

After the kiss, he chambered a round.

"I remember now. No wonder you seemed familiar. I saw those eyes of yours when I was a kid."

Such purity was a beacon to someone like him.

Athena’s expression remained calm. She knew her end was near, yet she felt no urge to speak.

Everyone assumed Marlon was enraged by Athena’s earlier actions and intended to kill her. The police tried negotiating, offering him a chance if he released the hostage.

Tyler was on the verge of collapse, scrambling towards them, but Marlon’s voice stopped him cold.

"You take one more step, and I’ll pull the trigger."

Tyler froze halfway, collapsing to his knees, watching helplessly.

Marlon found it amusing, letting out a sigh, the scar at the corner of his eye twisting upwards.

For a fleeting moment, Athena thought that if Marlon weren’t a wanted man, if he weren’t the villain, he might actually be charming.

Teenage Marlon had laundered all the Keller family’s shady dealings. Even if he weren’t part of the Kellers, he’d still be a force to reckon with.

Tyler was too overwhelmed to speak.

He only watched Athena.

But Athena feared death less than anyone.

The gun pressed to her temple didn’t make her flinch.
