Athena wasn't sure why she had that dream or if it had ever truly happened, but the unpleasant boy in it bore an uncanny resemblance to Marlon.
When she awoke, the sound of birds chirping surrounded her. Everyone was exhausted, taking a rest in a secluded spot.
Seeing her stir, Marlon couldn't resist a jab. "You must be part bear, sleeping at a time like this."
Athena crossed her arms, her voice calm and indifferent. "It's your necks on the line, not mine."
Marlon laughed, though his patience was thin given the tense situation. He had no time for arguments.
Just as Athena was about to close her eyes again, gunfire erupted nearby.
The group quickly grabbed their weapons, on high alert.
Marlon yanked her up and started leading them down a narrow path. "We can't stay here. We need to hit the road. Once we cross the border, we've got people waiting for us."
Though weary to the bone, the group got to their feet.
Athena had a sinking feeling. They might be surrounded. And within their ranks, a traitor lurked.
Her gaze fell on the man who'd been speaking Azmorian. His face was expressionless, simply following along.
After a few minutes, Marlon suddenly lunged with a knife at the man.
But the man was ready. The blade barely grazed him before he leaped down a short drop, disappearing from sight.
Marlon watched him go, a slight smirk on his lips.
The others quickly gathered around. "Boss, what's going on?"
"He's got a tracker on him."
It seemed like a hastily made decision to betray them, which was why the police had found them so fast. The sporadic gunfire hinted at a net closing in.
Anxiety rippled through the group. "What now, Boss? You go on, we'll hold them off!"
"Yeah, we got your back!"
They were fiercely loyal, willing to sacrifice themselves for Marlon's escape.
Marlon massaged his temples, "I memorized the map. Follow me."
The map had been the Azmorian man's ace, never shared willingly. Yet Marlon had taken one glance and memorized its complexities.

The readers' comments on the novel: Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja)
Author, would you story about Ryan settling down and another story on Eric regaining his body and memories back from Patrick, and Eric also settling down as I find it so disheartening for him to have gone through what he went through at the research institute, and I'll like for him to get his "golden boy" life back though, not at the detriment of Ian....
When will the author update to finish Beck's story? What about Dylan and Tyler's love lives? Also, I'll like the author to write on Wilma and Elvis ending up together as she was quite persistent in pursuing him. And Shawn's story, Cornelia Sullivan and Omar Casson. Also, a little write-up on Jeff (Ian's assistant) love life, too. Thanks, author for updating....
When will get update?...
What is wrong that the author has not updated this novel in over a month or is there somewhere else that I can continue reading the novel from chapter 1951 upwards? Do tell, please. Thanks....
