Even in Darkness She Chose to Rise (Tatiana and Jasper) novel Chapter 218

**TITLE: Even the Night Couldn’t Silence Her Light 218**

“Watch out!”

In an instant, Jasper’s hand shot out, clasping her wrist with a firm grip, pulling her back just as she was about to stumble into danger.

The warmth of his chest pressed against her cheek, enveloping her in a familiar scent that stirred a flurry of emotions within her. She found herself frozen in place, time seeming to stretch infinitely.

“Are you okay?” he asked, concern lacing his voice.

Her breath hitched in her throat, caught off guard by the sudden closeness. With a swift motion, she pushed him away, creating distance between them. “Mr. Jackson?” she stammered, her heart racing. Then, a wave of suspicion washed over her, and she questioned, “What are you doing here?”

A thought flickered through her mind like a lightning bolt—Was he following me? Does he know who I truly am?

“I’m surveying a project,” he replied, his tone steady. “I was just passing by when I heard the commotion.”

“A project? What project?” Her eyes narrowed, suspicion etched on her pale face, the fear she felt creeping in without her full acknowledgment.

A sharp pang of sadness pierced Jasper’s heart as he realized the depth of her fear towards him.

“A winery,” he explained, trying to keep his voice calm. “This area is perfect for growing grapes, and I needed to conduct an on-site inspection.”

A winery? The memory of the vineyards she had seen during her frantic drive flashed in her mind. He wasn’t lying; it truly was a coincidence. Gradually, she began to relax, the tension in her body easing just a bit.

“What happened back there?” she asked, curiosity mingling with concern.

“Could I trouble you to borrow your phone again?” he inquired, his expression earnest.

“Okay,” she acquiesced, feeling a swell of frustration. This was the second time she had found herself in this predicament with him. Why was it that whenever she was at her lowest, he appeared like a specter she couldn’t shake off?

Taking her phone, she resolutely dialed the police, her fingers trembling slightly as she pressed the buttons.

The police arrived swiftly, their sirens cutting through the air as they rushed the two men to the hospital. Thankfully, both were still alive. She cooperated fully, recounting her statement, her heart heavy as she learned that the two men were repeat offenders involved in extortion and possibly even a homicide case. Justice awaited them, and she didn’t hesitate to name Tavin as the mastermind behind the chaos.

Yet, as she spoke, she noticed the police officer’s hesitation. “Tavin is also hospitalized,” he explained, his brow furrowing. “His injuries are just as severe as those of the thugs. We’ll have to investigate him once he regains consciousness.”

Surprise washed over her; she hadn’t realized she had struck him that hard.

“You can go home for now,” the officer concluded, “and we’ll keep you updated.”
