“Don’t waste your breath on me. I couldn’t do anything to help. How on earth did you get tangled up with someone like that?”
“Just a bit of trouble, that’s all. I’ll do some more digging.”
“Alright. I’ll be in Hindersville next month for a visit. I’ll track you down then.”
As she ended the call, Tatiana felt an unsettling frown settle on her face. She had only just returned and found herself without any solid connections. Owen had always been her most influential ally overseas. If he was at a loss, who else could she possibly turn to? The weight of the situation pressed heavily on her mind. How could she possibly untangle this mess?
Moments later, Anna reached out with what could barely be described as good news. “I know someone who might be able to help. I’m planning to treat them to dinner and see if we can at least manage to get Will bailed out.”
“Who is this person?”
“Someone you know as well. Harpie.”
A silence enveloped Tatiana as a shiver of unease crept up her spine. The mere mention of Harpie sent a wave of apprehension through her.
“Tati. Here we are again.” Harpie lounged on the sofa, exuding a roguish charm, one eyebrow raised in a mocking arch.
Anna had maintained a decent rapport with Harpie in the past, which was why this meeting was even possible. She took the initiative, her voice steady. “Harpie, you know Richard, right? Is there any way you could possibly…”
“You know this is trouble, yet you still dare to ask?” Harpie interrupted, his tone dripping with disdain.
“I heard Richard was seriously injured and is still in the hospital. I had no idea it was connected to you two. Do you have the audacity to ask me to fix it?” Harpie’s status as a Jackson, legitimate or not, loomed large over the conversation. Richard couldn’t afford to offend him.
Anna swallowed her pride, feeling the weight of the situation. “We can offer compensation. We just hope this can be settled quietly.”
Harpie crossed his legs, his words drawn out as if savoring the moment. “It’s not a difficult task. Just a word from me can make it happen. But… if you’re asking for my assistance, there’s a price to pay.” His gaze shifted to Tatiana, piercing and direct. “I want the rights to that song. And I want first refusal on all your future compositions. Agree to that, sign the contract, and I promise I’ll get your man out.”
Just as I suspected, Tatiana thought, her suspicions confirmed. After Tavin’s failure, HJ Entertainment hadn’t given up—or rather, Harpie hadn’t.
“Simple, isn’t it? The choice lies with you, Tati.”
Anna’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You’re absolutely shameless!”
“Mind your tone. You’re the one asking me for a favor,” Harpie retorted, his voice cool and unyielding.
Tatiana remained silent, her mind racing with thoughts.
