Chapter 10
I stood frozen, my heart pounding as the name echoed in my mind.
Gabrielle Blackwood. I recognized it immediately.
She had been Benjamin’s relentless stalker back when we were together. Everyone around us knew how obsessively she pursued him, never giving up. Yet Benjamin never gave her a second glance. He always said that just the sight of her made him feel sick.
Then, everything changed. I became pregnant unexpectedly, we got married, and suddenly Gabrielle disappeared—rumored to have left the country.
But now, the police were claiming that Victoria Sterling was actually Gabrielle Blackwood in disguise?
I thought back to Victoria’s face—soft and gentle, yet there was always something… slightly off about her. A subtle unease I could never quite put my finger on.
Suddenly, everything clicked into place. I finally understood the deep-seated hatred she held for me.
Gabrielle had undergone plastic surgery, returned under a new identity, and still couldn’t let go of Benjamin. She transformed herself into some kind of environmental activist, wormed her way back into his life, and then set a deadly trap to take us both down.
“Gabrielle Blackwood… it was her all along,” I whispered, the realization hitting me like a punch.
Benjamin collapsed onto the floor, disbelief etched across his face. He must have figured it out too.
He closed his eyes tightly, taking a slow, steadying breath. When he opened them again, the look in his eyes was pure, unfiltered hatred.
“I’m going after her. I’ll bring her back myself,” he declared, voice low and fierce.
Without hesitation, he sprang to his feet and stormed out of the room, already dialing his phone to mobilize the rescue team.
Benjamin removed his helmet and stepped down, a cold, cruel smile twisting his lips.
“Victoria—where do you think you’re running off to? Why didn’t you tell me the truth?” he sneered.
Victoria forced a shaky smile. “Something came up at home. I need to—”
Before she could finish her excuse, Benjamin’s hand shot out, delivering a sharp, stinging slap across her face that echoed sharply in the quiet mountain air.
“Gabrielle Blackwood. Still lying to me?” he spat. “This road leads straight to Nepal!”
“You had the audacity to kill Charlotte. Who gave you the right?!”
