Everest's Guardian Hubby Watched Me Freeze My Ghost Knows Where He'll Burn novel Chapter 15

Chapter 2

Elara remained seated alone in the living room for what felt like endless hours. As the evening shadows deepened and night finally settled in, she slowly wheeled herself toward the study door and gave it a gentle knock.

Nicholas swung the door open abruptly, still fumbling with his phone as he tried to end his call.

“Babe, I know—I really messed up your birthday,” he said hurriedly. “But hey, our three-year anniversary is coming up soon. Why don’t we plan something big for that instead? Wherever you want to go, I’m in.”

Elara met his gaze, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Switzerland. I want to watch the first snowfall.”

A flicker of surprise—or maybe something deeper—passed through Nicholas’s eyes.

“First snow? If we wait another month, we’ll get snow right here in upstate New York. We could just stay home, keep it cozy. With your legs and everything… that’s a pretty intense trip, babe.”

But Elara shook her head firmly this time. For once, she stood her ground.

She only had fifteen days left. She wouldn’t make it to next month.

Nicholas saw the determination in her eyes and didn’t argue further. Pulling out his phone, he quickly booked two tickets to Switzerland for Christmas Day.

She had known he would agree. She’d seen it in his journal—every time he came back from visiting Valentina, the guilt gnawed at him a little more. He’d try to make it up to her in any way he could.

Elara unlocked her phone and set a timer, labeling it clearly:

DEATH COUNTDOWN

Now, her phone screamed DEATH COUNTDOWN in bold letters, and he didn’t even notice.

He didn’t even see it.

So this was what it felt like when love died.

When two people could no longer bear to be near each other.

But maybe it was better this way.

Fifteen days left. She could hold on for fifteen more days.

And then, it would all be over.
