From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 400

Their eyes met, neither hiding the emotions swirling between them.

Carlson Baker swallowed hard, about to lean in closer to Olivia—when a sudden female voice cut through the silence.

“Carey.”

The spell was broken.

Carlson instinctively let go of Elaine Carter and stepped back.

Elaine turned her head toward the voice.

From the right side of the garage, the edge of a yellow dress peeked out from the doorway.

A tiny head cautiously poked through.

Aileen’s round cheeks were impossibly adorable, her hair parted into two neat pigtails, each fastened with a colorful clip. She looked like a porcelain doll, impossibly cute.

Elaine’s heart melted. She called softly, “Carey.”

Before the words had faded, Olivia Bennett appeared at the garage entrance, relief on her face. “How did you run so fast?”

Carey looked up at her, big dark eyes full of innocence, and called sweetly, “Mommy.”

Olivia smiled and gently ruffled her daughter’s hair.

Elaine watched them, her expression impossibly tender. She called out, “Olivia.”

Olivia turned to Elaine and Carlson, a smile lighting up her face. “Elaine, you’re back!”

Elaine nodded and walked over, Carlson following close behind.

Elaine knelt in front of Carey, brushing a stray lock from her cheek. She smiled, “What brings you here, Carey?”

Carey’s eyes sparkled as she gazed at Elaine. “Came to see Adelina.”

Olivia explained, “She saw the car pull in and just ran right over. I only noticed when she’d already disappeared.”

Elaine’s smile deepened, her affection obvious. “So Carey came all this way just to find Adelina?”
