Chapter 8 

Many floors above Cassius, the fire was growing in intensity. Water from the firefighters‘ efforts to 

put out the fire was seeping down into the place he and Sabrina once called home, slowly destroying what little remained. 

Seeing this, Cassius made his way back upstairs. 

Finally, the fire consuming the laboratory was extinguished. All that remained was the thick, 

cloying smell of smoke and burnt objects. 

For a long while, Cassius stood there in numb shock. 

A firefighter said, “Mr. Folane, we failed to save whatever was in the room, but thankfully, nobody was harmed.” 

Cassius slowly made his way to the laboratory, which was now a charred shell of what it used to be. 

How many days and nights had he and Sabrina spent here? This was their workplace and even the place where they had engaged in intimate activities a few times. Everything they had was there. 

At that moment, Cassius was suddenly hit with a question. He wondered why he and Sabrina had ended up like this. Was it because of Natalie? 

The truth hovered somewhere between yes and no. 

Whenever he saw Natalie’s tear–streaked face, it was Sabrina who came to mind. Deep inside, he had always hoped that he could see Sabrina cry. In the ten years he had known her, she had never once been vulnerable in his presence. She had always been calm and composed, even though she was the one who first developed feelings for him. 

She had always been by his side, a silent presence that gave him whatever he needed. 

When he was hungry, she could instantly tell and would go out to buy him food. Despite not having much money, she would still buy him an expensive meal. 

When he got into a fight with his friend, she had stood in front of him, almost taking the punch that was meant for him. 

When he took what he wanted from her, she had clearly been uncomfortable, yet she still relaxed her body and let him do as he pleased. 

He found himself truly drawn to Natalie, and her cries touched his heart, making him forget all about Sabrina. The fact that he had initially brought Natalie back because of Sabrina completely left his mind. 

Just then, his secretary approached him, stepping over the puddles of water littering the floor. He said, “Mr. Folane, there’s someone here to see you.” 

Cassius went downstairs to an office, where a lawyer was waiting for him. 

“Good day, Mr. Folane. I’m Ms. Lirrel’s appointed lawyer. Here is a divorce agreement, and also a custody waiver letter for one Sebastian Folane.” 

Cassius could only stare at Sabrina’s signature on both documents, his fingers trembling. 

“Where’s my wife?” he coldly demanded, only just barely suppressing his murderous intent from spilling forth. 

The lawyer replied, “My apologies, but Ms. Lirrel has appointed me to handle the following divorce procedures in her stead. Please sign the papers.” 

When Cassius heard that, his temper flared. His eyes flashed menacingly as he said, “Tell her to come out here and face me. Sebastian is my son, and she had a hand in building up Folane Pharmaceuticals as well. Besides that, she’s my wife. Have her come see me personally.”
