Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 10

“What do you think you’re doing?”

Marguerite turned, immediately recognizing Benjamin, and her expression frosted over.

Benjamin stared at her, that all-too-familiar face now tinged with a strange unfamiliarity. He felt a wave of panic—like something precious was slipping right through his fingers, and he was powerless to hold on.

“So, you finally realize you were wrong.”

Marguerite shot him a baffled glance, as if he’d lost his mind.

She couldn’t be bothered to argue with him; lifting her chin, she stepped forward, determined to keep moving. Today, after all, she was here as a member of the Taylor family.

“Ms. Taylor.”

Fiona blocked her path, all honeyed smiles and feigned innocence. “Thank you so much for coming to apologize on my behalf. Since you’re officially Ben’s girlfriend, the Howells would never do anything to you.”

A prickle of unease crawled up Marguerite’s spine.

She glanced back and forth between Fiona and Benjamin. Suddenly, everything clicked—they had completely misunderstood her purpose for being here.

“I didn’t come because of either of you,” she said coolly, her smile growing colder. “Whatever drama you two have, it’s none of my business.”

Fiona, of course, didn’t believe a word. She leaned in, voice low and smug, whispering in Marguerite’s ear, “Let me tell you something. You’ll never beat me. Look—sure, I pushed Ms. Howell into the pool, but no matter what, Ben feels sorry for me. He’d rather you take the blame for me than let me suffer the consequences.

To him, you’re nothing.”

Marguerite’s features hardened in an instant. Her eyes flashed icy as she fixed them on Fiona.

“So it was you who pushed Yolanda?”

Fiona’s eyes sparkled with triumph as she gave a dismissive laugh. “Of course it was. She should’ve known better than to get in my way. She had it coming.”

“I don’t go looking for trouble with either of you, so do me a favor and stay the hell away from me. And as for your little scheme to make me take the blame for her—keep dreaming.”

Her smile vanished. She fixed Benjamin with a glacial stare, enunciating each word: “We’re over, Benjamin. A proper ex should be as good as dead.”

With that, Marguerite turned and marched straight into the Howell estate, leaving the two of them behind.

Benjamin’s face was thunderous, while Fiona trembled with fury, though she managed to put on her sweetest voice. “Ben, it’s all my fault. If it weren’t for me, Ms. Taylor wouldn’t be acting like this. I’ll go apologize to the Howells right now. I don’t want to make things harder for you.”

“Stop talking nonsense,” Benjamin muttered, gripping her wrist a little gentler this time. “I’ll handle it.”

He glared at the spot where Marguerite had disappeared through the doors, a frown etched deep on his brow.

Since when did she become so damn defiant?
