Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 9

“I’ll come by tomorrow to help you move, Ms. Taylor.”

Laura had already confirmed, multiple times on the drive back, that Marguerite was truly breaking up with Benjamin. Marguerite was even planning to take everything at the company that belonged to her.

And since Laura had always been loyal to Marguerite, naturally she’d be leaving with her.

Marguerite nodded.

She watched as Laura drove away, then turned and headed towards the villa. She’d barely taken a few steps when her phone rang.

The caller ID showed it was the orphanage.

Marguerite answered, and the frantic voice of the director came through. “Marguerite, someone from Foster Corp just called. They said they’re cutting off all funding to the orphanage, and the hospital says we have to take back all the kids. What’s going on?”

The orphanage. Foster Corp.

Just hearing those two names together, Marguerite instantly understood what Benjamin was trying to do.

Her expression hardened, but she forced herself to stay calm. “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of this. I’ll call someone right now.”

The director finally exhaled, reassured by Marguerite’s words.

The children sponsored by Foster Corp all suffered from congenital illnesses. Even a second without the life support equipment could be fatal.

No one knew that better than Benjamin.

Marguerite hung up and, without a moment’s hesitation, dialed a number she hadn’t called in years.

“Hello, Hogan Taylor.”

He picked up almost immediately, his familiar voice coming down the line.

Marguerite’s hand tightened around her phone. Her eyes stung, her voice trembling. “Hi. It’s me… your sister.”

She waited for the ache in her chest to subside before replying, steadying her voice. “I’ll come home once I’ve sorted things out here. I should’ve listened to you all sooner—Benjamin was never the right person for me.”

The siblings ended the call.

Two minutes later, Hogan texted her to say the orphanage crisis was resolved. He also reminded her to attend the Howell family’s celebration the next day for Mr. Howell’s seventieth birthday, representing the Taylor family. And, by the way, Ms. Howell had been pushed into the sea and was still unconscious.

Their families had always been close—it was only right for her to visit.

Marguerite agreed.

That night, Benjamin didn’t come home. Marguerite received a gloating text from Fiona and promptly blocked her without a second thought.

The next day, Laura came to pick her up. Marguerite had her drop her first at the Howell family estate, then take the rest of her things to the new house.

As she stepped out of the car, ready to enter the grand old Howell home, someone suddenly yanked her arm from behind. Marguerite almost stumbled, barely catching herself before she hit the ground.
