“Grandma’s birthday is tomorrow. I want you to come home with me tomorrow night—we’ll celebrate together.”

Marguerite’s heart leapt at the thought. She hadn’t spent much time with Leonard’s grandmother, but she truly liked the old woman, and it was obvious the feeling was mutual.

“Of course! Should we pick out a birthday present for her first?” Marguerite asked, already looking forward to the visit.

They’d been back for a while now, and she found herself missing Grandma more than she’d realized. Besides, it would be nice to go home and see everyone again.

“No problem,” Leonard agreed with a warm smile. “Let’s get some dinner first, and after that we can shop for her gift.” He knew how much Marguerite cared about Grandma, and it made him genuinely happy. If Grandma received something Marguerite had chosen herself, she’d be over the moon. This birthday would be even more special.

Still, Leonard was sure this trip home would mean something more: the family would probably start planning their engagement. He hoped it would all be settled soon—he wanted Marguerite to truly be his.
