Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 138

She had raised these two boys by herself since they were little; they meant the world to her. If it weren’t for the mess they’d made, she would never have had the heart to turn her back on her own sons.

Despite all these years of Aaron acting in his own self-interest—pulling strings and playing games at the company—she simply couldn’t bring herself to cast him out. But today was different. She had no choice.

“Mom, you’ve really broken my heart. I never imagined things would end up like this. Fine!” Aaron’s voice trembled with grief, but underneath, his resentment toward the whole family only deepened.

They left together, not sparing a backward glance. After all, today was still Mrs. Murphy’s birthday. If they had ever truly cared about her, no matter how angry they were, they’d have at least stayed until the celebration was over.

Edith, for her part, didn’t want to leave just yet—they hadn’t achieved what they’d come for—but Aaron couldn’t stand to stay a moment longer.

Still, they weren’t about to let this go. They would find a way to make things right for themselves.

Once they’d gone, only Mrs. Murphy and Leonard’s family remained in the house.

“Mom, please don’t upset yourself over them. They’re not worth it. I never thought my brother could change so much. I know you put Leonard in charge of the company because you trust him—you believe he’s the one who can keep it running well.”

“And I know he will never let you down. Maybe, to them, all this feels unfair, but I support your decision—not just because he’s my son, but because I truly believe he’s the only one who can carry on your life’s work and make the company flourish.”

Mrs. Murphy might seem stern, but she had always been clear-sighted, able to see straight through to the heart of things.

“Don’t worry—we’ll spend more time with you from now on. I know you get lonely with nothing much to do all day. Once Leonard and Claire are engaged, you can start looking forward to grandchildren.”

“We’ll have them bring the kids over often, so you’ll always have some joy and company in the house!”

Mrs. Murphy had already planned all this out, and honestly, she couldn’t wait.

“That would be wonderful. I’ve been dreaming of holding a great-grandchild for years!” That, more than anything, was her deepest wish.
