Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 146

“So I really think you should be bold for once. Stop worrying about what they think—when have they ever cared about you or your grandmother?”

Mrs. Murphy knew some things probably weren’t her place to say, but she just couldn’t keep silent anymore. Watching how those people treated Leonard and his grandmother was infuriating.

“I understand,” Leonard replied. “I’ve already started making plans, but with our engagement coming up, I can’t help but worry they’ll stir up trouble and ruin everything for everyone.”

He paused, his voice growing firmer. “That’s why, once we’re engaged, I’m going to deal with them once and for all.”

He’d worked out all the details long ago. The only thing that held him back was concern for the people he cared about. If he were alone, he wouldn’t have bothered with his family’s nonsense at all.

Mrs. Taylor nodded, seeing the sense in his words. She admired that he always had a plan, and honestly, she couldn’t have asked for a better son-in-law.

“Whatever you decide, we’ll support you,” she said warmly. “We’re always on your side. If you need anything, you just let us know.”

“And your brother—he’d never stand by and do nothing if he knew what was going on,” Ms. Taylor added.

Moments like this, sitting together as a family, filled Leonard with a longing he could hardly express. Their warmth and easy affection were unlike anything he’d ever known.

“Marguerite got home safely, didn’t she? You two are getting engaged soon—it’s important you grow closer during this time. I can tell there’s still some distance between you.”

She patted his hand, her eyes kind. “Marguerite is a wonderful girl, and she deserves a lifetime of happiness. Promise me you’ll always treat her well, especially when it comes to Winifred. Don’t let anyone make her feel unwelcome.”

His grandmother rarely spoke of the family’s old wounds, not wanting to bring Leonard more pain, but she understood everything. Some things, she knew, might never be fixed.

“Don’t worry, Grandma,” Leonard promised. “I’ve already arranged for the best specialists from abroad to come and help with her leg. They’re working on a surgical plan right now, and she’ll have her operation very soon.”
