Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 145

“Thank you. Thank you all for believing in me and supporting me!”

A gentle warmth spread through Leonard’s chest. For the first time, he felt truly seen and cared for.

“There’s no need for all that formality with us,” Mrs. Taylor said with a soft laugh. “We’ve watched you grow up since you were a boy. Besides, your mother is one of my dearest friends—her son is like my own. And soon, you really will be family.”

She paused, her eyes twinkling. “Honestly, I used to be in a terrible mood every day, ever since my daughter ended up with a son-in-law I wasn’t too fond of. But ever since you two got together, I’ve felt lighter—and even luckier at cards! Your mother owes me quite a bit lately, you know.”

She chuckled warmly. Women of Mrs. Taylor’s circle spent their afternoons gathered around the card table, the stakes often reaching sums that would make most people’s heads spin. Yet none of them cared much about the money. The real prize was the laughter and camaraderie they shared.

Leonard smiled. “It’s the least I could do.”

“Of course it is,” Mrs. Taylor replied, her tone fond. “Your mother told me herself—everyone’s overjoyed you two finally found each other. We all wish you nothing but happiness.”

Marguerite listened to her mother’s words, feeling strangely unsettled. She still wasn’t sure what exactly existed between herself and Leonard. She knew he treated her well, always thoughtful and considerate. But he’d never really said how he felt about her.

Mrs. Taylor let out a sigh. “Edith and her family are just too much. All they care about is getting their hands on Grandma’s money. They’ve never spared a thought for her health—even now, when she’s so frail, they’re still scheming. It’s despicable.”

“If you ask me, you should just cut them off completely. Let them taste what real desperation feels like—maybe then they’ll finally back off. I know you’re not the type to be ruthless, but with people like them, you have to be. Otherwise, they’ll never understand the consequences of their actions.”

“These last few years, since Grandma handed you the company, you’ve grown it into something truly impressive. It’s recognized around the world now. Grandma trusts you, and that’s why she chose you to take over.”
