Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 162

As long as Leonard spent a little more time with this woman and offered a few words of comfort, Winifred thought, maybe he’d go along with whatever the doctors asked. Worst case, she’d just have to visit more often and keep him company. That way, perhaps he’d feel better about the whole situation too.

“So, it’s settled then,” the specialist said. “I’ll take his case back to discuss with the other physicians, and together we’ll finalize a treatment plan. It shouldn’t take long, so we’ll need your full cooperation as soon as possible.”

This specialist was nothing if not professional—efficient, too. With that reassurance, Leonard finally felt at ease. After finishing the conversation, he stepped out of the consulting room and made his way down the corridor to find Winifred.

She sat alone in her wheelchair, gazing out the window, lost in thought. He wondered what was running through her mind.

“Leo, you’re back,” she said as soon as she noticed him. “You were talking with the doctor for so long… Did they say my condition is hopeless? Honestly, I’m thinking about giving up. I just can’t go through that much pain and suffering again, only to end up with nothing in the end.”

“They come up with so many plans every day, put me through so much—does any of it really mean I’ll walk again?”

Her voice trembled with uncertainty, her eyes wide and fearful—not an act, but a raw, genuine terror from deep inside.

Tears welled in her eyes, warmth flooding her heart. If only he could stay by her side and care for her like this always.

“Leo, I…”

“Winifred, just give yourself this one chance to stand up again. I know how strong you are. If you set your mind to something, nothing can stop you. Trust me—and trust yourself, just this once.”
