Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 161

With Leonard by her side, Winifred found a little more courage than before. His presence kept her fear at bay, even if only just.

In truth, she should have started physical therapy right from the beginning. If she had, her chances of recovery might have been better, and the process perhaps a bit quicker. But back then, no matter what anyone said, Winifred refused to cooperate. She was terrified of the pain, of the struggle ahead. Leonard had tried, time and again, to talk her around, but his efforts fell on deaf ears.

So the matter dragged on until now. Only recently had Leonard managed to find the right specialist, which was why the doctor had finally come.

“Leo, would you hold my hand?” Winifred’s voice trembled, tears brimming in her eyes as she looked pleadingly at him. “Every time I see all this cold equipment, I just feel so hopeless…”

Leonard nodded and took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. With the help of several others, they gently helped her up and guided her through an X-ray.

The results came back quickly. The specialist studied them carefully, then examined Winifred’s condition. After so long without movement, her legs had grown weak and thin, the muscles already beginning to waste away.

Her situation was serious. Recovery was not going to be easy, nor would it come quickly. Returning to how things were before would require immense effort and perseverance.

The doctor’s expression had been grim from the moment he arrived. Watching Winifred’s anxious, tearful face, he could already tell she would be a difficult patient.

“If you’re truly determined to help her walk again, we’ll do all we can. But you need to prepare her mentally for what’s to come. The road ahead is long and hard. Even for us to come here from abroad wasn’t easy, so I hope everyone will work together.”

The doctor’s meaning was clear. Some patients yearn for their freedom so desperately, you can see it in their eyes. But when he looked at Winifred, all he saw was resistance. It was obvious she hadn’t truly committed to her recovery.

No matter how many resources Leonard poured into this, or how many approaches he tried, it would all be for nothing if she wasn’t willing to fight through it herself. In the end, recovery was a journey only she could make.

Leonard nodded firmly, determination hardening his features. “Don’t worry, Doctor. I’ll talk to her. I brought you here for a reason, and I’m not giving up. We’ll see this through, no matter what.”
