Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 164

Meanwhile.

After Marguerite arrived at the studio, she found Laura already knee-deep in paperwork, handling one task after another. Marguerite’s absence these past few days had left Laura working overtime, barely pausing to catch her breath.

Laura genuinely loved working with Marguerite—and she’d been giving her all, without complaint.

“Laura, I’m back now,” Marguerite said warmly. “And it looks like my engagement is going to be postponed for a while, so my schedule’s wide open. Why don’t you take a long vacation? You’ve been holding down the fort all by yourself while I was away, juggling all these projects.”

She paused, her voice softening. “Come to think of it, I don’t think you’ve taken a single day off since you left the company. I really can’t thank you enough.”

Marguerite felt a genuine swell of gratitude. Having someone so loyal and dedicated by her side was a rare gift, and she knew it. Though their projects were still in progress and she couldn’t offer Laura much in the way of financial reward just yet, she was determined to make it up to her when everything wrapped up.

“Ms. Taylor, honestly, I’m not tired at all,” Laura replied with a smile. “This is what I love to do. The studio’s still in its early stages, so I don’t mind pulling a little extra weight. Once we start making money, you’ll be able to hire more people, and then I’ll finally get a break.”

She hesitated, then added, “Besides, I know you’ve had a lot going on at home lately. It only makes sense for me to step up while you handle those things. I don’t mind at all—I’m happy to help.”

She hesitated. “And even if I did, it’s not like he’d be there.”

She tried to brush it off, but a trace of disappointment lingered in her eyes. Deep down, Laura knew why she and Luke had ever crossed paths or worked together—it all traced back to her feelings for Ms. Taylor. As an outsider looking in, she could see that clearly now.

“Don’t give up,” Marguerite said gently. “He’s never had anyone get close to him all these years, and I really think you two would be great together. You’re attentive and talented, and I honestly believe you’d make each other happy.”

Laura smiled, but shook her head. “I know you mean well, Ms. Taylor, but you can’t force these things. I don’t think he feels the same way, and we barely see each other outside of work. For now, I’d rather focus on what I love—my job. At least that brings me happiness.”
