Laura had made up her mind. She was going to let this go. The gap between her and Luke just seemed too wide—she simply didn’t feel good enough for someone like him. Sometimes, she thought, it’s better not to force things.
After all, if you push too hard, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment.
But Marguerite could see right through her. It was obvious Laura cared about Luke more than she wanted to admit. Love could be strange like that—sometimes two people meet just once and it’s enough to set everything in motion.
Laura was a steady, thoughtful woman. She wasn’t the type to fall for someone on a whim, nor was she drawn to Luke simply because of his family’s wealth or the company he ran. That wasn’t her.
Which is exactly why Marguerite wanted to help. Even if Laura and Luke didn’t end up together, giving them a chance to see what could happen felt like the right thing to do.
“Laura, don’t be so hard on yourself,” Marguerite said gently. “You’re honestly amazing, and I know you’re only going to get better at what you do. This is just a rough patch, and honestly, it’s partly my fault for dragging you into it.”
“But I believe our studio will take off one day, and when it does, you won’t feel like you’re not good enough for anyone. You’re talented, and you’ve got a bright future ahead of you. Don’t overthink things. When it comes to love, none of the other stuff matters. If two people truly care for each other, that’s all that counts.”
“Well, to tell you the truth, Leonard and I didn’t have much in common at first either,” Marguerite admitted. “We’re getting engaged soon, so naturally we talk about work, and our families have known each other forever—our mothers are close friends. That gives us something to talk about, but it’s not all perfect. Love isn’t always easy; it takes time to find your rhythm. The more you’re around each other, the easier it gets. Eventually, the words just come.”
Marguerite thought about her own relationship. She and Leonard didn’t always have endless things to talk about, and sometimes she kept her worries to herself. But when they were together, it just felt right—she felt safe with him. Most of all, he always made her feel secure, like she could depend on him no matter what.
Their relationship had grown almost without them noticing, and with time, their bond had only deepened. Marguerite knew she could trust him completely, and that made all the difference.
