“Understood, Ms. Taylor.”
“Alright then, let’s make the most of our time here. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be taking a well-deserved break at home—I can handle things on my own. Honestly, there’s nothing urgent right now, so tonight, dinner’s on me.”
Marguerite didn’t want Laura to keep burning the midnight oil at the office. She knew Laura needed a proper rest—she’d been carrying the weight of the company ever since Marguerite had to step away, working tirelessly without a single complaint.
That kind of dedication was rare, and it moved Marguerite deeply.
“Thank you, Ms. Taylor,” Laura replied, touched and genuinely happy.
“No, it’s me who should be thanking you. After I left the company, you didn’t hesitate to follow me out on a limb. You knew from the start it wouldn’t be easy for us, but you never gave up on me.”
It was during her toughest moments that Laura stood by her, unwavering in her loyalty and trust.
“Ms. Taylor, I just believe there’s a real future working with you. That’s why I never had any doubts,” Laura said firmly, confident that she’d made the right choice.
Marguerite smiled. They didn’t say anything more after that, throwing themselves back into their work.
That evening, Marguerite invited Laura and Luke out for dinner.
“Come on, both of you, have a seat,” Marguerite said warmly. “Dinner’s on me tonight—order whatever you like.”
Luke had been an incredible help to her recently. If he hadn’t agreed to partner with her on the patent project, things wouldn’t have stabilized so quickly, and no one would have dared question her decisions. His company’s solid reputation gave her the confidence she needed.
“Luke, thank you for everything you’ve done for Laura at your company, and for all the support you’ve given me. Tonight’s dinner is just a small way to show my gratitude,” Marguerite said sincerely.
“Marguerite, when did you get so formal with me?” Luke laughed, waving away her thanks. “Helping you out is nothing. I was happy to do it.”
