Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 181

“That Leonard, what a scoundrel—he’s definitely been giving Marguerite a hard time. Otherwise, why would she be in such a foul mood? Let’s stop fussing with this pointless wedding stuff and go find out what’s really going on.”

Mrs. Murphy was genuinely worried about Marguerite. She could see her future daughter-in-law wasn’t herself, so she was eager to get over there right away.

Even Mrs. Taylor wondered if Mrs. Murphy was being a bit dramatic. Besides, neither of them had planned anything; just dropping everything and rushing over seemed a little much.

“They’re newlyweds—little arguments are par for the course,” Mrs. Taylor reasoned, trying to be the voice of calm. “There’s really no need to make a mountain out of a molehill.”

“If you ask me, we should just let it be. Whatever it is, let them work it out together. Maybe they’re just exhausted from work, and that’s why they seem down. No need for us to get all worked up and meddle. Their problems are theirs to handle.”

“I’ve watched Leonard grow up,” Mrs. Taylor continued, her trust in him unwavering. “He’s always been responsible. If I didn’t believe that, I’d never have let him marry my daughter. I know he wouldn’t hurt Maggie. If there’s ever an issue, he’s the kind to deal with it right away.”

Mrs. Taylor was confident in her judgment—especially after her daughter’s previous heartbreak, she was determined to make sure Maggie wouldn’t get hurt again. She trusted Leonard, and she trusted herself not to have misjudged him.

“That’s not good enough,” Mrs. Murphy insisted. “I’m going over there to see for myself what’s happening. Marguerite’s always been strong-willed—if it was just work stress, she’d handle it. Even if she couldn’t fix it, she wouldn’t let it get her down like this.”

“I’ll call my driver right now. We’ll go over straight away. Besides, it’s been ages since we saw them—I miss them, too.”

Mrs. Murphy’s concern was evident; she wasn’t about to let this go.

Wilma answered truthfully, knowing Mrs. Murphy would find out one way or another. “They’ve both been busy lately—just wrapped up in work. I haven’t noticed any arguments, and there hasn’t seemed to be any tension between them.”

She hesitated, then added, “But… yesterday I overheard them talking on the phone. Apparently, Mr. Murphy has been at the Rehabilitation Centre these past few days, helping Winifred with her treatments.”

Wilma told them everything she knew, figuring honesty was the best policy—especially since Mrs. Murphy would surely get to the bottom of it herself if she didn’t.
