Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 215

Laura watched it all unfold from the sidelines, her heart tightening with a bittersweet ache. The man she cared for had long since given his heart to someone else.

And as an outsider, she could see clearly just how much Marguerite meant to Luke. Maybe that was why he never let anyone else in—his heart was already full. There just wasn’t any room for someone new.

“Laura, you have to try these pastries Mr. Zade picked up. They’re amazing!” Marguerite called out, her voice bright and inviting.

But Laura knew none of this was meant for her. She didn’t want to take part in something that felt so far from her own.

“Mr. Taylor, I’m not really into sweets. Why don’t you enjoy them? Besides, there’s still a lot of work I need to finish. I’ll get back to it,” she replied, forcing a polite smile.

“Come on, Laura!” Marguerite insisted, grinning mischievously. “Mr. Zade got enough for both of us. I’m sure he was hoping we’d share them together, right?”

She deliberately turned to Luke, waiting for him to back her up.

Luke hesitated, caught off guard, but he couldn’t refuse without making things awkward. “Of course, it’s for you two lovely ladies,” he said, playing along.

Still, he couldn’t help but notice how Marguerite was always trying to nudge them together. What was going on in that woman’s head? He and Laura couldn’t be more different—they were practically from different worlds. How could Marguerite think they could ever work?

Besides, after Marguerite, Luke found it nearly impossible to open his heart to anyone else. If he could fall for someone new, he would have by now. He wouldn’t still be alone after all these years.

Laura watched them banter, a mixture of envy and longing twisting inside her. She knew it had nothing to do with her; it was just that Luke loved Marguerite too deeply to see anyone else.

Sometimes she wondered what it would be like if that affection, that careful attention, was directed toward her. Luke was so considerate—if he ever loved someone, he would give them everything.

But he wasn’t the type to hand out his affection carelessly. So what was the point of wishing for something that would never be hers?

Once Marguerite finished sorting out the work issues, she felt a wave of relief. Thankfully, the people she’d brought in today were all experts. Together, they quickly fixed the errors in the data and got everything back on track.
