Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 214

“It’s alright, Wilma. I’ll go check things out first. If it’s nothing serious, once I’ve resolved it, I’ll be back to rest. Don’t worry about me.”

A wave of warmth washed over Marguerite. Wilma had always been thoughtful and caring, not just to her, but to everyone in the family.

After leaving the house, Marguerite headed straight for Luke’s company. When she arrived, she spotted Laura Wood waiting for her at the entrance.

“Mr. Taylor, you’re finally here. I heard there were some issues with the company’s data, so I rushed over. Honestly, I can’t fix this myself—if I could, I wouldn’t have troubled you at all.”

Laura knew Marguerite had enough on her plate already, especially with everything that had happened at home and with Mrs. Murphy still in the hospital. The last thing she wanted was to add to Marguerite’s burdens, but she had no choice.

“It’s alright. I can handle it. This whole data mess isn’t really your fault anyway. There was probably just a glitch during processing, which caused the mix-up. It’s nothing major, so please, try not to worry.”

Noticing Laura’s guilt and anxiety, Marguerite couldn’t help but reassure her. None of this was really Laura’s responsibility.

The two of them walked inside together and went straight to Luke’s office. Inside, several other people were already seated—specialists Luke had called in to help tackle the issue.

“There you are, Marguerite. Come on in. These are some friends of mine—they’re all familiar with this sort of thing. The data problem’s pretty urgent, so I thought I’d ask you to join forces and work it out together.”

Luke glanced at her, concern flickering in his eyes. He never wanted any of this to happen—least of all for the woman he loved to be caught up in trouble. Yet some things were simply out of his hands, and he couldn’t openly step in to help her as he wished.

“Thank you, Luke. You really are thoughtful.”

“Of course I am. I know exactly what you like and what you can’t stand. Otherwise, I’d be a pretty lousy friend, wouldn’t I?” Luke laughed, but beneath the smile lingered a pang of sadness.

No matter what, he’d remained by her side as a friend—never wavering, never asking for more.

He’d once hoped for a chance, but she’d moved on long ago.

Some things, he realized, just weren’t meant to be.
