Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 218

“Did you go to the hospital to see your grandmother today?” Marguerite asked, concern lacing her words. The thought of leaving the elderly Mrs. Murphy alone in that sterile hospital room made her uneasy.

“My mother’s with her,” Leonard replied gently. “She insisted I come back to stay with you. Grandma’s doing much better now—her vitals are all stable, so there’s really nothing to worry about.”

In truth, Leonard had arranged for people to keep an eye on his grandmother. If anything happened, he’d be the first to know. Even though he wasn’t physically at the hospital, he felt reassured.

“That’s good to hear.” Marguerite finally let herself relax a little. With Mrs. Murphy by her grandmother’s side, there was no need to worry.

“How are things at your studio?” Leonard asked in his usual calm tone.

“Everything’s under control, so you really don’t have to worry,” Marguerite said, her confidence shining through. “Things are getting more stable by the day. Once I finish these two projects, I’m planning to file for some new patents and expand my studio even further!”

She felt optimistic about her work and had already made up her mind—no matter what, she’d see this through to the end.

“I support you,” Leonard said simply.

But Marguerite could tell he was exhausted. Ever since he’d come home, there had been a heaviness about him—a fatigue that spoke of trouble at work. Normally, he wasn’t like this.

“I know,” she said, giving him a small smile.

They went out for dinner together, something they hadn’t done—just the two of them—for ages. It had been even longer since they’d sat down and talked without the weight of the world pressing in.

Sometimes, Marguerite felt like they were strangers, just two people sharing the same routines, the same roof.

As they returned home, the housekeeper greeted them. “Are you planning to visit the hospital later? If you are, I can make some nourishing soup for Mrs. Murphy to take along.”
