Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 219

Wilma had been thinking about Mrs. Murphy constantly these past few days, wondering how she could do something for the elderly woman. After all, Mrs. Murphy had lived with their family for many years and had always treated Wilma with kindness.

Back then, when Wilma lost her own family, it was the Murphys who took her in. She’d worked for them as a housekeeper for so many years, but Mrs. Murphy had always treated her like one of their own, never letting her feel left out or neglected.

In this household, Wilma had found warmth and a sense of belonging. Now that Mrs. Murphy had fallen ill and was staying in the hospital, Wilma wanted nothing more than to help in any way she could.

“Wilma, thank you for your kindness,” the young Mrs. Murphy said. “I’ll let you know before I visit tomorrow, so you can prepare something if you’d like. But the doctor made it clear—she needs to eat light, gentle food, nothing too greasy.”

“Of course, ma’am, don’t worry. I’ll make sure everything is just right for Mrs. Murphy tomorrow,” Wilma replied, feeling genuinely happy to be able to help.

Later that evening—

Marguerite was just about to settle in for the night. Leonard, however, was still holed up in his study, buried under a pile of work. The past few days had been especially hectic for him, leaving little time for anything—or anyone—else.

Marguerite had only just slipped into bed when her phone rang.

She glanced at the screen in mild surprise. It was Luke.

“Send me your location,” Marguerite said quickly. “I’ll come right over. But until I get there, you’d better make sure nothing happens to her.”

She couldn’t relax until she saw Laura herself. Marguerite could guess why Laura had been so happy tonight—after all, she’d had the chance to dine with someone she liked. It was easy to lose track of limit in moments like that.

But still, Laura was a young woman, out drinking with a group of men—didn’t she realize how risky that could be? What if something had happened? Marguerite made a mental note to talk to her friend later, to remind her to always look after herself, no matter the circumstances.

Before leaving, Marguerite stopped by Leonard’s study to quickly explain what was going on, and to briefly fill him in on her friendship with Laura.
