Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 228

“Mom, we only came here today because we were worried about you, to see how you’re feeling. That’s all—there’s nothing else behind it. You’re really misunderstanding our intentions.”

“And besides, what’s done is done. Are we supposed to be afraid of gossip now? People have been talking about our family for ages—what’s one more rumor? We’ve all heard worse before.”

Aaron shrugged it off. Truth be told, when Mrs. Murphy first fell ill, he’d been genuinely scared. But now that she seemed to be recovering, he was back to making flippant remarks.

“That’s enough!” Mrs. Murphy couldn’t listen to another word from him.

“It’s not easy for all of us to come home and sit down together. Can’t we just have one peaceful meal without all this bickering? No matter what, you’re still family, bound together whether you like it or not. Just look at yourselves—what have you all become?”

“You’re embarrassing the Murphy family!”

She glared at them, her disappointment clear. She hadn’t wanted to say any of this, but she couldn’t hold it in any longer.

After that, no one dared to speak.

Edith, for her part, had barely said a word all day. She was glued to her phone, tapping out messages to someone, though no one knew who. Even when they gathered at the dinner table, she didn’t put it down.

“Mom, the doctor said you need to stick to a light diet for a while,” Mrs. Murphy reminded her gently. “I know you’re back home now, but you still have to be careful.”

Edith, silent until now, finally spoke up. The room fell quiet, everyone wondering what she was about to reveal.

“If you have something to say, just come out with it,” Mrs. Murphy said, eyeing her. Edith’s demeanor suggested she was about to make some big announcement—something that surely had to do with Leonard.

“Alright. Since you said so, I’ll get straight to the point. But please, brace yourself. I’m afraid what I’m about to say might be a shock, and this concerns the entire Murphy family.”

Marguerite glanced at Edith, curiosity and concern written across her face. She had no idea what was coming, but she was sure it was something serious.
