Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 229

“All right, enough with the suspense. If you have something to say, just get to the point. We’re all family here—what’s the use in beating around the bush?”

The elderly Mrs. Murphy couldn’t take it any longer. She had no idea what Aaron was getting at, and ever since he’d come in that afternoon, he’d been acting strangely—though she couldn’t quite put her finger on exactly how.

“Leonard, you’re not actually a member of the Murphy family. I’ve gathered enough evidence on my phone—take a look for yourself.”

The moment Aaron’s words hung in the air, the entire room fell silent. Everyone sat frozen, blindsided by this revelation. Of all the things he could have said, no one expected this.

But even so, no one wanted to believe it. How could Leonard not be part of the Murphy family?

“Mind your words. What are you implying?” The elderly Mrs. Murphy’s face grew stern, her gaze shifting sharply to Mrs. Murphy.

Mrs. Murphy stood still, her expression unchanged. She neither spoke up nor rushed to deny the accusation.

Edith had clearly come prepared. Without hesitation, she produced the evidence she’d painstakingly gathered beforehand. She’d always known this was not a secret that could be spoken of lightly, which is why she made sure she was ready for this pivotal moment.

The elderly Mrs. Murphy glanced over the DNA test results and the stack of documents Edith had brought. Everything pointed to the same unthinkable conclusion—Leonard was not, in fact, her grandson.

Her hands began to tremble. She stared in disbelief at Mrs. Murphy. “What’s going on? Tell me—what’s happened?”

Gripped by emotion, the elderly Mrs. Murphy could barely keep her composure. The evidence was irrefutable—no one would go to such lengths, not even Aaron, if there weren’t truth behind it.

“When I first met your father, I was already pregnant,” Mrs. Murphy began, her voice unsteady. “Back then, we didn’t even know each other. Our marriage was arranged. I didn’t have a choice.”

“My own mother—your grandmother—she told me to end the pregnancy before marrying your father. But I just… I couldn’t bring myself to do it. So, I kept you, in secret.”

“The timing worked out, so I… let everyone believe you were your father’s child.”

As Mrs. Murphy finished, she felt a strange sense of relief, as though a weight had finally been lifted after so many years.

But for the elderly Mrs. Murphy, it was like a bolt from the blue. She simply couldn’t accept it. The grandson she had cherished all these years… wasn’t even her blood.
