Mrs. Murphy, even in a crisis, kept her composure. She’d weathered plenty of storms and had more experience than most, but handling this alone would be overwhelming for anyone—even her. Though she was getting on in years, she simply couldn’t let go of the company; her worry nagged at her constantly.
Looking back, there wasn’t much in her life she truly cherished—nothing, really, except the company she’d spent most of her years building from the ground up.
“Grandma, as long as you’ll let me stay, I promise I’ll do everything I can to save the company,” Leonard said earnestly. “I’ll make it better than ever. And as for Aaron… I can let him have a share of the profits. After all, he is your only son now.”
In the end, Leonard decided to compromise. The truth was, none of this—money, power—mattered to him. The only thing he cared about was his grandmother.
Mrs. Murphy was surprised by his words, but after a long, thoughtful sigh, she said, “Leonard, I never expected you to go this far. No matter what anyone says, you’ll always be my grandson. Don’t let what others say get to you; don’t let their gossip weigh on your heart.”
“People who really accomplish great things never let themselves be swayed by idle talk. So don’t worry, I’ll always have your back! Don’t be fooled by my age either—if I show up at the company, everyone still straightens up when they see me. If you can’t handle something, just say the word and your grandma will set things right.”
That was Mrs. Murphy—unyielding as ever, never afraid to stand up for her family.
“All these years, I’ve seen your hard work and your loyalty. I know you truly want the company to thrive. How could I not see that?”
“And so what if you’re not my blood grandson? You’ve called me ‘Grandma’ for so many years—I already see you as one of the most important people in my life.”
She paused, her gaze softening. “Ever since Marguerite joined our family, I’ve been so happy for you. She’s a good girl, and I know the two of you are sincere about building a life together. You deserve someone like her by your side. Promise me you’ll take care of each other.”
