Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 239

The elderly Mrs. Murphy spoke with heartfelt sincerity, offering her blessing to the two of them.

“Mom, thank you for forgiving me. Honestly, I didn’t really understand all of this before. I just couldn’t bring myself to get rid of the baby—he felt like a part of my soul. Maybe I was just too young back then and convinced myself I could bury this secret forever.”

Now, looking back, she deeply regretted it. The fact that Leonard had learned the truth at this moment left him feeling unsettled and unsure of his place in this family. He couldn’t stand up to them the way he used to.

“What’s done is done. Who among us hasn’t made mistakes in their life? But what does it really mean to be family?”

“Are they my sons just because we’re related by blood? Does that alone make us family? We all know how they’ve treated me over the years. I stopped caring about blood a long time ago. To me, anyone who truly cares about me is my family.”

Though she was getting on in years, Mrs. Murphy had always been clear-sighted and open-minded. Most importantly, she understood who genuinely had her best interests at heart.

As they were talking, Edith’s voice rang out from the hallway.

“What are you doing here? You’re not welcome in this house! Get out!” Edith stormed in, her voice sharp and her eyes flashing with pride and hostility.

“That’s enough!”

“Leonard has managed the company well for years. So what if he isn’t my biological grandson? After everything we’ve shared, my word is still final as long as I’m alive. Don’t waste your breath trying to change my mind!”

“And besides, I built this company from the ground up. I’ll decide who inherits it—it’s none of your business.”

Every time Mrs. Murphy saw that couple, her emotions ran high. Yet she had never truly considered cutting her sons out of her life. Sometimes, a mother simply has no other choice.

“Mom, after everything they’ve done, why keep forgiving them? Who knows what else they’re hiding from us? What if Leonard gains control of the company, and one day kicks us all out because we’re not truly family? What will you do then?”
