Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 241

“Mom, we can’t just walk away like this—and we certainly can’t let someone else take over our family. Why should we?”

“He’s not even one of us! Are you losing your mind because you’re getting old?”

Edith’s nerves were frayed, and her words grew sharper with every sentence. If Mrs. Murphy really insisted on handing the company to an outsider, Edith was ready to make a scene—she’d rather collapse right here than give up.

“Is this how you talk to your own mother? Can’t we discuss things calmly for once?” Aaron finally couldn’t take it anymore. He was timid by nature, usually careful not to upset their mother, especially considering her health.

But Edith felt she was already being restrained.

“What’s so wrong with what I’m saying? Am I not right? Why hand everything in our family over to an outsider—a traitor, no less!”

“Everything I’m doing is for the good of this family. One day, you’ll thank me for it!”

Edith declared this with her head held high. She was determined to get answers today; she wasn’t leaving until everything was settled. Mrs. Murphy’s decision had left them all bitterly disappointed.

She’d thought it all through before coming. Even if Mrs. Murphy refused to give up the company, they’d march into the boardroom and see whose side the directors were really on. Maybe, in the past, they would have supported Leonard, but now he wasn’t even part of the Murphy family anymore.

“Enough!”

“Have you finished causing trouble yet? I told you before—you are not welcome in this house! How long do you plan to keep this up? Are you trying to drive me to my grave?”

“If this is how you want it, then I’ll change my will. When I die, every last penny goes to Leonard. I’m telling you right now, and I mean every word!”

Edith looked at Aaron in despair. Aaron, too, was at a loss, unable to find the words to speak to their mother.

“I’ve always been measured in my decisions. I have my own plans, and none of you can stop me!”

“And I’m not afraid of what people might say. So there’s no point obsessing over it. If you have nothing else to say, you can leave.”

Mrs. Murphy didn’t want to waste another breath on them. Her heart was pounding painfully, and her health was failing fast.

“Mom, I—”

“That’s enough. This family has already turned its back on us. There’s nothing left to say—just go.”
