Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 242

Aaron looked like he was ready to give up, clearly not interested in dragging things out any longer. But Edith—her pride wouldn’t let it rest so easily.

She thought her mother’s decision was completely unfair. How could she hand the entire family business over to an outsider?

As soon as they stepped out of Mrs. Murphy’s house, Edith’s frustration bubbled over. “Why did you drag me out here? Nothing’s settled yet! If the company really falls into their hands, what are we supposed to do? What about our family? Are we just supposed to starve on the street?”

She crossed her arms, her determination written all over her face.

Aaron, far calmer than his sister, tried to reason with her. “Mom’s already made up her mind. What’s the point in pushing back any harder? Getting into a shouting match with Mrs. Murphy isn’t going to solve anything. Can’t we look at this from another angle?”

He lowered his voice, glancing back at the house. “Let’s just go home and figure out our next move. If we keep this up and push her too far, she might actually get sick—and if that happens and she writes Leonard into her will, we’ll never get the company back.”

Despite her stubbornness, Edith couldn’t help but see some logic in what he was saying. Slowly, her anger cooled.

“So, what’s your plan, then?”

“If we want him out of the company, we have to start with the board. He’s not even part of our family anymore—he’s admitted as much himself. If the board doesn’t recognize him, do you really think he’ll stick around?”

Meanwhile, inside, Leonard finally let out a breath he’d been holding. He wasn’t worried about himself—he was worried about his grandmother.

Mrs. Murphy had just come back from the hospital, and her doctors had been clear: she couldn’t take any more stress.

He was terrified that another argument might push her too far.

“Grandma, please, don’t let them get to you. None of this matters as long as you’re healthy. That’s all I care about.”
