Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 244

Before Leonard left, his grandmother couldn’t help but give him a few final words of advice. She knew him too well; whenever trouble came knocking, he always tried to shoulder it alone, never wanting to burden anyone else. He was the type who would share good news, but keep the bad to himself.

“Don’t worry about me, Grandma. You’re my rock—if anything happens, you’ll be the first person I come to. Besides, I know if you step in, there’s nothing we can’t fix together. Why would I push myself so hard when I have you?”

Despite what he said, Leonard had no intention of letting his grandmother bear his worries. All he wanted was for her to enjoy her days in peace at home, away from the company’s endless problems.

After all, Mrs. Murphy was getting on in years, yet she still worried about the family business as much as any of them. The thought filled him with guilt.

“All right, go on. Take care of your work,” she said, her tone reassuring.

As soon as Leonard left the house, he headed straight to the office. He knew everyone there was waiting for him, and by now, rumors about his family’s situation had probably spread through every corner of the company.

But the real question on everyone’s mind was: Who would show up to take charge today? Would it be Leonard, or Aaron?

When Leonard walked in, he was met with a wave of surprised stares. Clearly, nobody had expected him to return to the office so soon.

Half an hour later, in the conference room, the executives had already gathered, buzzing with speculation about the Murphy family’s troubles. When Leonard entered and took his place at the head of the table, the room fell silent, every eye turning to him.

“I’m sure you’ve all heard the news about my family,” Leonard began, his voice steady. “There’s no point pretending otherwise—what you’ve heard is true. I’m here today with a message from Mrs. Murphy herself. No matter what happens, she’s made it clear the company will remain in my hands. Our years together can’t be undone by any crisis; we’re family, and nothing is going to change that.”

“But none of that should concern you. What matters now is keeping this company running, and running well.”
