Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 249

After hanging up the phone, Laura suddenly felt her spirits lift. It seemed like she and Luke were getting more opportunities to spend time together lately.

“I’ve already given you the chance—tonight is another one, so make the most of it,” Marguerite advised, unable to resist a little pep talk. “Honestly, you can be yourself around him. There’s no need to be so stiff and formal. Just treat him like a friend, and things between the two of you will move forward naturally.”

Laura always tensed up around Luke, Marguerite noticed—not that it made much sense. It was as if Laura took everything about this man to heart, but there really was no need for all that anxiety.

“I know, Mr. Taylor. You’re right, and I do get what you’re saying. But sometimes I just can’t help myself. I want to talk to him like a normal person, just treat him like any other boss, but somehow I always get nervous…”

Laura’s frustration was obvious—she truly didn’t know how to handle herself around him. She’d never dated before, never even really liked someone this way, so she was completely out of her depth.

She couldn’t even remember when she first started developing feelings for him. All she remembered was how, every time she saw Luke, she couldn’t help but get flustered, stealing glances at him whenever she thought he wouldn’t notice.

“You really don’t need to be this anxious. You two have known each other long enough; what’s there to be nervous about?” Marguerite shook her head with a bemused smile. “Luke is laid-back—he’s not nearly as intimidating as you think.”

“Don’t worry, Mr. Taylor. After what you said last time, I realized how serious it could’ve been. From now on, no matter who I’m with, I’m not drinking that much again!”

Thinking back, Laura shuddered at the thought of what could have happened if the people she was with hadn’t been trustworthy. Thankfully, they were, and she’d gotten home safely—with someone even looking out for her.

“Alright, enough chit-chat. Let’s wrap up what’s on our plates so we can get out of here early for once!” Marguerite said, shifting gears. “Once we finish these projects, I’ve got a few patents in the pipeline that I want to push forward. They’re big ones, and there’s no way the two of us can handle them alone. I’m planning to bring in a couple more people to help us out soon.”
