Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 253

“Laura’s actually a wonderful girl,” Marguerite said, her tone earnest. “And I know you, Luke—if you’re looking for someone, it’s definitely not for her background or status. Even if she’s just an ordinary person, if it felt right between you two, you’d go for it.”

She paused, hoping her words would land. “Honestly, you should try to pay more attention to her. She’s genuine and hardworking. I wouldn’t have let a stranger stick around me this long if she wasn’t.”

Marguerite only spoke up because she saw Luke as a good friend, and she admired his character. That’s why she was willing to bring this up.

But Luke’s heart was already set on someone else. He had no interest in meeting anyone new.

“I know she’s a great person, Marguerite. But it’s not about background or status—we’re just not right for each other, that’s all,” he replied, his voice steady, leaving no room for negotiation. Anyone could hear from his tone that he’d already made up his mind. There was simply no chance.

Marguerite frowned, genuinely confused. “But why, Luke? You haven’t even given her a chance. How can you be so sure it wouldn’t work?”

She couldn’t help but think of herself and Leonard. At first, they’d been total strangers, but over time, they’d grown close, their feelings slowly deepening. She believed that as long as two people were interested and spent time together, anything was possible.

She just wanted Laura to have a shot.

“You wouldn’t know her,” he said quickly, forcing a light laugh. “Come on, you know how many beautiful women I meet. How many could you possibly know?”

But inside, Luke felt oddly flustered. He still couldn’t bring himself to face his feelings. The woman he loved was already married, but letting go was harder than he’d ever imagined.

He’d told himself, time and again, to move on. It was over—they had no future. Besides, Marguerite had become someone he could rely on, someone who’d do anything for him. How could he not care for a woman like that? So what was he still holding on to?

The truth was, after all these years, he just couldn’t let go. Try as he might, his heart wouldn’t listen to reason.
