Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 264

When she’d visited home a while back, this very topic had come up. Her mother admitted the reason she’d opposed their relationship in the first place was because she’d thought the man was unreliable. But losing her daughter over it—being separated for so long—had left her with daily regrets.

“Thank you, sis,” she said softly.

“Alright, enough with the polite exchanges. Let’s all sit down and grab something to eat,” Hogan interrupted, his tone full of brotherly concern. “You just left the office, you must be starving.”

Marguerite brightened immediately, her demeanor around Hogan almost childlike—she knew she’d always be the one he doted on.

Watching them, Hannah couldn’t help but laugh at how indulgent Hogan was towards his sister. The genuine warmth between them was obvious, and she envied that closeness—a pang of sadness flickered in her eyes. “I really envy you two. Things were never like this in my family.”

“I have two brothers too,” Hannah continued, her voice subdued. “But my parents always favored them, never once looking at me the same way. It’s always been that way, ever since I was a kid.”

As she spoke, the sadness in her expression deepened, a trace of resignation in her eyes.

Marguerite frowned, surprised. She’d always thought of Hannah as gentle and gracious—hard to imagine she’d grown up in such a harsh environment. Suddenly, she felt a surge of sympathy.

“But why would they treat you like that?” Marguerite asked.

“If anything ever upsets you, you can always come to me. I’ll be there, no matter what.”

Marguerite wasn’t sure she was the best at comforting people—she’d never experienced anything like what Hannah had—but she could offer warmth and support. After all, soon they’d be family.

“Thank you, Marguerite,” Hannah replied. “Even though we just met, I feel like we really click. I already like you so much.”

It felt, to both of them, as if they’d known each other for years.
