Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 263

Sometimes I just can’t get past it—why is that? I honestly don’t know what I’m supposed to do. But maybe, as time goes on, I’ll slowly find my way out of this.

Laura kept repeating these words to herself, the only comfort she could muster. The past few days had been agonizing, and ever since she’d met him, she felt as if she’d lost herself completely.

Even when she was thinking clearly, she knew her actions were reckless. She shouldn’t give herself away so wholly, but sometimes she just couldn’t help it.

“Don’t worry,” Marguerite said gently. “With time, everything will pass, and you’ll get better, I promise. You’ll start a new chapter before you know it. If you need a break, just take one—I’m giving you unlimited time off. Come back whenever you’re ready.”

Marguerite was more than just a good boss; she treated Laura like her closest friend, trusting her without reservation. Laura had always worked hard, and Marguerite saw that, which was why she felt she owed Laura her support during this difficult time.

“I’m really okay, Mr. Taylor. But what you just said… it means a lot to me. I feel so supported and warm inside. Honestly, I love my work and I’m happy being here with you.”

“Even if I did take a break, I’d still worry about the company. And right now, I just can’t leave things unsettled. Once things are stable and we’ve got new people on board, maybe I’ll take some time off then.”

Laura had no desire to leave; besides, she couldn’t think of anywhere else she’d rather be.

“Alright, let’s make that the plan. Consider this a rain check on your vacation—take it whenever you want, no questions asked,” Marguerite replied, smiling. Sometimes, she really did think of Laura as a little sister.

The two of them had developed a seamless way of working together; sometimes all it took was a glance to know exactly what the other was thinking.

“Let me introduce you,” Leonard said, smiling. “This is my sister, Marguerite. And this is my girlfriend, Hannah Austin.”

“Hello, Marguerite,” Hannah said warmly. “Your brother talks about you all the time, and I’ve seen your photos, but you’re even more stunning in person. I’m so glad to finally meet you.”

“Hi, Hannah. I only just heard my brother had a girlfriend, but the moment I saw you, I knew you two would be perfect together. You’re exactly his type, and I hope you’ll be very happy.”

Marguerite immediately liked Hannah. She could tell Hannah was a gracious and well-mannered woman—the kind of daughter-in-law their mother would love.
