Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 262

The next morning.

When Marguerite woke up, she discovered both of them had already left for work; the house was empty.

She could only sigh at his tone last night—lately, things had been hectic, and judging by how the two of them looked, they were both swamped.

She got up, asked the housekeeper to prepare breakfast, and after eating, headed straight to the office.

Laura was already there, busy at her desk.

Spotting her, Marguerite was both surprised and concerned. “Didn’t I tell you to rest at home? Why did you come in to work again?”

She was genuinely worried about Laura.

Laura managed a small smile. “Honestly, I have nothing to do at home. And when I’m alone, my mind just spins with all sorts of nonsense. At least if I’m working, I don’t have to think about any of that.”

Even as Laura spoke, it was clear she was still hurting—her cheerfulness felt forced, a brave face masking her heartbreak.

Marguerite wanted to offer some comforting words, but found them hard to say. She knew platitudes wouldn’t help; Laura had to work through this on her own, in her own time.

“Mr. Taylor, I’ve never really fallen for anyone before. He was the first person I truly cared about, the first one who made my heart skip a beat. I just never expected things to go so wrong. Maybe we really do come from different worlds.”

She hesitated, her voice trembling. “Last night, I kept replaying it all, wondering what I did wrong. Was it something about me? What made him stop loving me?”

Laura longed to tell her the truth—that the person in Luke’s heart was Marguerite herself.

But she knew she couldn’t be the one to say it. After all, neither of them had ever spoken it aloud, and now Marguerite had her own family.

Besides, Laura knew Luke would never come between Marguerite and her happiness. This was something he’d never admit, and she respected that.

Maybe it was for the best that they ended things quietly and on good terms. Nothing had ever really happened between them, but at least now they could let each other go.

“Mr. Taylor, Mr. Zade is a wonderful person—I know he’d never string me along. I just can’t get past this, not yet.”
