“Don’t worry, I know where to draw the line. Besides, I’ve already sent people to keep an eye on them and figure out what their next moves are.”
The truth was, Leonard’s position hadn’t come easy. Reaching where he was today had sometimes required playing his cards close to the chest, even using unconventional tactics when necessary.
He was well aware of everyone’s movements, and lately, he’d noticed Aaron hadn’t been keeping quiet. Aaron had been mingling with board members, trying to win their trust by promising favors and leveraging company interests, all in hopes of carving out a place for himself.
It wasn’t a new plan—Leonard had caught on to Aaron’s intentions a while back. At first, Aaron had seemed hesitant, but now things were different; Aaron was becoming bolder.
“Alright, enough about work,” Leonard said, waving a hand as if to push the topic away. “We’re out for dinner together—let’s just enjoy it. It’s not often we all get to sit down like this.”
Sensing the mood, Hogan picked up the cue and steered the conversation in a lighter direction.
Even though Marguerite had already shared a meal with Leonard and Hogan earlier, being with Hogan always lifted her spirits. She felt happy and secure when he was around, like nothing in the world could go wrong.
“Hogan, when are you getting married?” Marguerite blurted out, grinning as she changed the subject.
“Soon—you’ll meet my girlfriend before long!” Hogan replied, unable to hide the excitement in his voice. In fact, bringing this news to Leonard and Marguerite had been one of his reasons for coming tonight.
Marguerite’s eyes widened in shock. She had never once heard Hogan mention a girlfriend before. He was notorious for being picky, and nobody ever seemed to catch his eye. The sudden announcement left her reeling.
Leonard watched Hogan with a smile, noticing the gentleness in his expression. He couldn’t help but think Hogan must have really found someone special; otherwise, he’d never act this way.
After dinner, the three of them lingered until it was late before finally heading home. Originally, Hogan planned to stay at a hotel for convenience’s sake—he didn’t want to intrude on Leonard and Marguerite.
But Marguerite wouldn’t hear of it. She flatly refused to let Hogan leave, insisting he stay with them. In the end, Hogan gave in and went home with them, unable to say no to his sister’s stubbornness.
