Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 267

Leonard always had a way of seeing right through people. His observations were sharp, his judgment keen—Marguerite had to admit that much, even if it unsettled her.

After all, Leonard and Hogan had met this woman first. From the moment Leonard walked in, his focus had been entirely on her. You could read the woman's every thought in the way Leonard tracked her subtle gestures and fleeting expressions.

He’d encountered all sorts of people in his time, and it didn’t take him long to figure someone out. One look was often all he needed. Marguerite found herself wanting to doubt him, but she couldn’t ignore his words. She knew Leonard wasn’t the type to speak carelessly—if he hadn’t been convinced, he wouldn’t have said anything at all. Besides, this woman might end up being her sister-in-law someday.

Leonard didn’t confide in her for no reason. He cared about Hogan, wanted him to find real happiness. That was the only reason he was being so candid.

“I think you should just give it some time,” Leonard said. “Maybe I’m wrong about her. Let’s not jump to conclusions—just get to know her a little better and see what happens.”

He didn’t have any proof yet, so he wasn’t about to make any bold accusations. The best thing was to let Hogan spend more time with the woman and see what came to light.

Marguerite’s spirits, which had been high earlier, sank at his words. Now she was left uncertain, not sure what to do next, or whether she should tell Hogan any of this.

“You’re right,” she admitted quietly. “People like that can pretend to be someone they’re not. But you’ve seen how Hogan is—he’s completely caught up in her. He won’t listen to reason.”

She felt a tangled mess of emotions—unsure what to say, even less sure how to face them both. Sometimes she felt sorry for Hogan: after all, it wasn’t easy finding someone you genuinely liked, only to discover there might be something wrong.

If it wasn’t a matter of principle, she could accept it, and she was sure Hogan would too. But if there was something truly off, if this woman had ulterior motives, Marguerite would never let them be together. She couldn’t just stand by and watch Hogan walk into disaster.

Her own heartbreak had left a scar that would last a lifetime. She would never let Hogan go through the same thing.
