After Marguerite and Leonard finished their brief discussion, they didn’t linger on the topic—after all, they’d only just met.
“Alright, you should get some rest. You’ve got work at the office tomorrow,” Leonard said, glancing at the time before ushering her off to bed.
…
The next morning at the office, Marguerite couldn’t help but worry about Hogan. She called Hannah to see if she was free to grab lunch and maybe do a little shopping together.
Hannah agreed without hesitation and sounded genuinely enthusiastic—perhaps because Marguerite was Hogan’s sister. It was clear she wanted to make a good impression.
“Let’s meet in half an hour at the mall next to your dance studio,” Marguerite suggested, thinking it would be more convenient for Hannah.
“Sounds good!”
After ending the call, Marguerite headed straight to the mall where they’d arranged to meet.
They found each other easily among the weekend shoppers. As soon as Hannah spotted Marguerite, she slipped her arm through hers, as if they were old friends.
“So, Marguerite, what made you want to meet up with me today?” Hannah asked with a bright smile, her tone light but carrying a hint of curiosity.
By the end of their shopping spree, their hands were full of bags. Hannah insisted on paying for most of Marguerite’s purchases, brushing off her protests.
Marguerite felt uncomfortable letting someone else spend money on her, especially knowing Hannah’s salary probably wasn’t much. But Hannah wouldn’t take no for an answer, so Marguerite relented—though she made a mental note to tell Hogan so he could reimburse her. She wasn’t the type to accept handouts, especially not the first time out with a new friend.
Later, Marguerite took Hannah to a cozy bistro she used to frequent and treated her to lunch.
“So, Hannah, how long have you been at the dance studio? Has everything been going well at work?” Marguerite asked, unable to contain her curiosity any longer.
