Goodbye My Arrogant Ex novel Chapter 27

Marguerite lifted her gaze slowly, her eyes drifting past Benjamin’s shoulder to the furtive figure lurking behind him.

She didn’t need to guess. She already knew who it was.

A cold, knowing smile touched her lips as she asked in a low voice, “Benjamin, are you still going to tell me there’s a place for me in your heart? What about Fiona? How would she feel about that?”

“I’ve said this a thousand times—she’s only my sister. I owe her mother a debt, so I’m just looking after her,” Benjamin replied, his patience fraying.

“Does Fiona know that?” Marguerite pressed, taking a step closer, her voice unyielding.

He hesitated, then finally said, “She’s not well—she can’t handle any emotional stress. Everyone’s gone out of their way to protect her. Is that so hard to understand?”

He looked genuinely bewildered, unable to grasp the tangled emotions at play.

Why couldn’t these two women coexist—one a supposed sister, the other the person he truly loved? Was the divide between them really so insurmountable?

Marguerite moved closer, so near her voice was a whisper at his ear. “You and Fiona aren’t even related by blood. Can’t you see how she really feels about you? Or are you just too comfortable in this haze of ambiguity to admit it?”

Benjamin recoiled as if struck, his expression darkening. He snapped, “Enough, Marguerite! Can you stop twisting something pure with your sordid assumptions?”

At that, Marguerite stepped back, her gaze shifting to the doorway where Fiona stood.

Fiona’s eyes were rimmed red, her hand clamped over her mouth as tears spilled freely, silent and uncontrolled.

Marguerite’s tone was icy as she addressed her, “Ms. Jenkins, you heard him. Benjamin has no feelings for you. He’s only been kind because of your health, but the one he truly wants to marry has always been me. How do you feel about that?”
