Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 270

By the time the two of them made it back, it was already late. They’d spent the whole day wandering around, yet she still hadn’t managed to uncover anything useful.

Not long after, Leonard came home as well—this time, alone.

“My brother didn’t come back with you? Did he go off to see his girlfriend again?” Marguerite asked, as she set down her coat.

Leonard nodded.

Of course he did. The two of them hadn’t seen each other yesterday; it was obvious they were missing each other, especially with things still in the honeymoon phase.

“I actually had lunch with his girlfriend today,” Marguerite continued, “but I couldn’t get anything out of her. Honestly, she seemed a little guarded around me. Still, after what you said yesterday, I started paying more attention, and you’re right—there’s definitely something different about her.”

She glanced at Leonard, her voice dropping. “Did you find out anything on your end? If you did, you have to tell me.”

The memory of last night’s conversation flickered through her mind—how the two of them had debated what to do, how Leonard had insisted on quietly looking into this woman’s past. Marguerite knew it wasn’t exactly fair. After all, her brother had only just started dating this girl, and snooping around in someone’s private life felt wrong. But what choice did they have? Both had sensed something was off, and neither was about to let Hogan walk blindly into disaster.

Leonard nodded, his expression grave. “I did find something,” he said, hesitating. “But before I tell you, you should probably brace yourself.”

That bad? Marguerite could read the seriousness in his face; this wasn’t going to be something easily solved.

Marguerite was stunned, her eyes wide with shock and disgust. She could hardly believe such monsters existed in the world.

“It gets even worse,” Leonard went on quietly. “From what I found, she was barely an adult when it happened. She became pregnant. Her mother took her away, and... took care of the baby before it was born.”

Marguerite felt her worldview shatter. She never could have imagined such a secret lurking behind that woman’s quiet demeanor.

“This really isn’t her fault,” Leonard said gently. “Honestly, if anyone went through something like that, I doubt they’d ever want to talk about it. I just wanted you to know what we’re dealing with. In the end, it’s up to you and your brother to decide what to do next.”

He’d done the digging, but the next step—what to do with the truth—was out of his hands. Some choices, he knew, were impossibly hard to make.
