Goodbye My Arrogant Ex (Marguerite and Leonard) novel Chapter 271

“I used to suspect she had ulterior motives—maybe she was only with my brother for his money. But after learning about what she went through… Well, none of it was really her choice.”

Marguerite felt more conflicted than ever. Now that she knew the truth, she wasn’t sure whether to tell Hogan. The two of them were still in the giddy throes of new love, and she was certain Hogan had never truly looked into this woman’s past.

If you choose to be with someone, you have to trust them completely.

“I keep going back and forth on it too,” Leonard admitted. “We don’t really know who this woman is yet, not for sure. I’m not sure whether we should tell him or not.”

He looked helpless, unable to decide what the right thing to do was.

If it were him, he’d probably come clean. He’d want to be honest with his partner—because from the very start, hiding something so big would mean he’d never been truthful. Besides, he knew how hard it was to reveal the ugliest parts of your past to someone you cared about.

But it wasn’t just up to her to decide, and back then, she must have wanted nothing more than to forget it all. Who would want to bare their deepest scars to someone else?

“I’ll keep digging,” Leonard promised. “I’ll see if I can find out more details, get to the bottom of it. That way, if you do decide to tell your brother, at least we’ll have the full picture.”

He was genuinely upset about it all—for Hogan’s sake, he was doing everything he could.

He believed some things were just too painful to share, especially with someone whose opinion you valued.

So, no—Leonard didn’t buy the idea that Hannah had told Hogan everything before they got together.

“You might be right,” Marguerite said, running a hand through her hair, clearly at a loss. She had no idea what to do, or how to face Hogan. The last thing she wanted was to be the reason they broke up, but she also couldn’t bear the thought of Hogan being trapped in a relationship built on secrets.

“It’s getting late,” Leonard said gently. “Let’s not dwell on this tonight. I’ll keep looking into it, I promise. And try not to let it eat away at you.”
